2008 Rose Parade®

Trip Update

What: The 119th Tournament of Roses® Parade in Pasadena, CA

When: Friday, December 28, 2007 through Thursday, January 3, 2008

Who: Any member of the 2007 NHS Eagle Pride Marching Band in good standing

Transportation: Charter flight from Okaloosa Regional Airport (VPS) to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)

Trip Cost: $1700 per student

Inclusions: All meals, hotel, air transportation, motor coach transportation while in the Los Angeles area, and a customized Eagle Pride Rose Parade®apparel package that includes a Windbreaker,a Custom T-Shirt, and a Commemorative Pin.

Activities: Hollywood Tour, Rehearsal, Beach Outing, Tour of Float Barns, Photo in front of the Rose Bowl®, Tournament of Roses® BandFest, Knott’s Berry Farm Theme Park, Pantages Theater, San Diego Zoo, Dinner Dance on the RMS Queen Mary, and of course the Rose Parade® on New Years’ Day.

Payment Schedule: Checks for the student trip payments should be made to “NHS Band” and should include the student’s name and “Rose Parade® Trip” in the memo line. Payments may be dropped in the red payment box in the band room or mailed to: ATTN: NHS Band, Niceville High School, 800 E. John Sims Parkway, Niceville, FL 32578.

Scholarships: Scholarships will be available to students with a legitimate need and who have demonstrated efforts to raise funds. The amount and number of scholarships are limited based on the availability of funds.

Fundraising: We have scoped out many fundraising events specifically for the Rose Parade® Trip this year. These include a Drawing for a 7 Day Cruise, a “Pennies for Pasadena” change collection program, a Dodge Ball Tournament, a Golf Tournament, a Parent’s Nite Out, a Second Hand Book Sale, an Eagle Pride Cookbook and an Alumni Donation Campaign. We need parent volunteers to help plan and carry out these events. Please contact Cindy Schroeder if you are willing to help in any way.

Friends and Family Packages: Grueninger Music Tours (GMT) is offering tour packages that will shadow the activities of the Eagle Pride Band while they are in California. All packages include block seating for the Rose Parade®, tickets to BandFest, and admission to the Dinner Dance on the RMS Queen Mary. Prices vary based on the actual activities included and your choice of hotel. Packages are available with or without air. Land only packages range from$899 to $1299 per person based on double occupancy. For more information, visit their website, or contact them at (800) 225-9919. Payments for these packages are to be made directly to GMT.

Fly with the Band: The band has chartered a flight with Northwest Airlines to transport the band to and from Pasadena. If you would like to fly with the band, we do have extra seats available on the flight, which will depart on December 28th and return on January 3rd. Charter seats are $685. To reserve your seat, please contact Cindy Schroeder and pay an initial deposit of $300. Checks for the charter payments should be made to “NHS Band” and should include your name and “Charter” in the memo line. If you would like to fly with the band and take advantage of one of the Friends and Family packages, you will need to purchase your land only package (either package B or package D) directly from GMT.

Chaperones: Approximately 30 chaperones will be needed. Chaperones will be selected based on the needs of the band. Chaperone applications are due by August 13, 2007. Selected chaperones will be notified by September 5, 2007.

Check Your Student’s Account Status in CHARMS: You may check on the status of your student’s account simply by going to the CHARMS website. Here’s how. Go to Enter nicevilleHSB in for the School Code under the Parent/Student Login section. You will need your Student ID number (the same number you use to check grades online). This is a great way to keep in touch with what is going on with your account and with the Eagle Pride Band.

Check the Calendar of Events in CHARMS: We have now begun to use the “Calendar” feature that is available inCHARMS. Just simply click on the Calendar Icon when you login to your student’s account. You can also check for missing forms.

Band Booster Meetings: Did you know that Band Booster Meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the NHS Band Room? Come join us!
