RADIO MUSIC COORDINATOR

DESCRIPTION: Under general supervision from the Assistant Radio Network Manager, develops approaches for the on air presentation of music and coordinates new methods with announcers; prepares copy for musical program promotions; selects and orders music for the Radio Network library collection; maintains music library; participates in selection of syndicated music programs. Performs related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (A position may not be assigned all the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all the duties that may be assigned.)

Programs and hosts a daily music program on the Nebraska Public Radio Network.

Selects and orders recordings for the Radio Network library.

Supervises the maintenance of the Radio Network music library.

Prepares play lists of all music programs produced by the Radio Network.

Develops and implements approach and strategy for new music programming on the Network.

Participates in selection of syndicated music programming for the Network and prepares listings of music programs for the program guide.

Participates in planning overall themes for fund raising drives and selects music to be used during the drives.

Prepares copy for programming and program promotions.

Participates with engineers to create and schedule taped spots for program promotions.

Participates in the training of new announcers for the Radio Network.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS REQUIRED: (These may be acquired on the job and are needed to perform the work assigned.)

Knowledge of: cross referencing of information for maintaining a music library; public radio system and satellite transmission technology.

Ability to: envision, develop, and implement musical programming ideas; select appropriate music for a theme or topic; write script for program promotions; supervise the work of others.

ENTRY KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS REQUIRED: (Applicants will be screened for possession of these through written, oral, performance, and/or other evaluations.)

Knowledge of: classical music repertoire; various music artists, composers, and titles; techniques of radio on-air announcing.

Ability to: select appropriate music for use in daily programming and special promotions; pronounce music artist's names and titles of recordings in several languages; ability to operate related broadcast equipment.

Post high school education or equivalent plus experience in on-air radio announcing and production.
