TECHNICAL RIDER

Please note that the following requirements are intended to provide the best possible circumstances for the artists to be able to work more efficiently. If there is a problem with any of the conditions, please contact us immediately.

When we have received your response a member of Cantabile – normally Richard Bryan – will be in contact with you to discuss the precise details of the performance.

Company / General

There are usually 4 artists, sometimes 5 (including a pianist). Cantabile does NOT normally travel with a technician or representative from the management.

The full performance usually consists of two halves of approximately 45 minutes each in duration, plus an interval to suit the both the venue and the artist.

The day of the performance

Cantabile will normally arrive 5 hours before the performance time. From this time they will require:

·  a sound desk operator

·  a lighting board operator

All equipment should be provided by the venue.

Sound

Cantabile often sings without amplification. However, a sound system and a sound engineer are required:

·  if the auditorium has a bad acoustic (for example, in a hotel banqueting room)

·  if the auditorium has more than 300 seats

·  if there is background noise

·  if the performance is in a marquee

·  if the performance is in the open air

The use of the sound equipment is at the discretion of Cantabile.

Please provide:

·  a mixing-desk in auditorium, with a minimum of

o  8 inputs

o  2 aux

o  3-band equaliser (EQ)

·  high-quality digital reverb (e.g. Yamaha SPX 90)

·  a high-quality P.A. system

·  2 stage monitors (Cantabile generally prefer not to use monitors, but they should be available.)

·  5 high-quality omni-directional lapel (throat / chest / Lavaliere / tie-pin) radio microphones

of the same type (e.g. Sennheiser, Samsung, Shure, or Micron Model 101, 102)

complete with receivers, power packs and aerials.

·  all appropriate cables

N.B. HAND-HELD RADIO MICROPHONES OR HEADSETS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. FOR FURTHER INFORMATION ON THIS, PLEASE CONTACT US.

Staging

Please provide:

·  4 identical music stands (without lights), ideally solid orchestral-style

·  4 identical chairs, without arms, preferably black

·  where available, 4 identical high bar-stools

In venues where there is no integral staging (such as a hotel banqueting room) a raised stage of at least

5 metres x 4 metres is ideal. If the event is to take place outside then please provide an awning or similar protection from sun or rain.

Lighting

Please provide, where available:

·  general cover in open white

·  red wash

·  blue wash

·  gold wash

·  at least one follow spot

·  for a Christmas programme, a Christmas tree on stage with dimmable lights

Front of House

Please provide:

·  a member of staff, equipped with a range of appropriate change, to sell CDs in the interval and after

the performance

·  a table with four chairs at which the artists can sit to autograph the CDs after the performance

Cantabile will normally provide a programme in advance, consisting of one double-sided A4 sheet, folded in the middle.

·  This should be photocopied or printed and offered to all members of the audience free of charge

·  Five copies of this – or any other programme – should be supplied to the artists in their

dressing-rooms

Piano

For a programme with piano, the following are required:

·  a high-quality Grand Piano set onstage, stage right

·  an adjustable piano-stool

·  2 PZMs (pressure-zone microphones) or stereo condenser microphones (e.g. Samson CO2)

·  1 hot-spot piano monitor with volume control

·  1 small (e.g. clip-on) piano-light

The piano should be

·  tuned to A440 on the day of the performance, prior to the arrival of Cantabile

·  polished before the performance

Access

Please provide:

·  Parking for up to three cars

Dressing-rooms

Please provide:

·  4 individual lockable dressing-rooms

·  1 (clean!) iron

·  1 (clean!) ironing-board

·  at least 1 wash-room and lavatory for the exclusive use of the artists

·  4 towels

·  bottled water (still and sparking) fruit juice, tea, coffee and fresh milk

·  sandwiches, crisps, biscuits, etc. upon arrival N.B. One of the artists is lactose-intolerant.

Meals

The members of Cantabile like to have a hot meal before or after the performance, depending on the time of curtain-up. Please let us know what would seem to be the best time to take the meal. N.B. One of the artists is lactose-intolerant; another of the artists cannot eat black pepper, onions or garlic.

In the dressing room during the performance some sandwiches, bottled water (still and sparking) fruit juice, tea, coffee and fresh milk would be appreciated.

Hotel

Cantabile requires a good-quality hotel, normally situated as close as possible to the auditorium.

The following are required:

·  parking for up to 3 cars

·  4 non-smoker’s rooms with:

·  en-suite bathroom

·  telephone

·  television

·  broadband Internet access
