A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Maurice P. Carpenter.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Maurice P. Carpenter and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, Maurice P. Carpenter was born on October 20, 1918, a native son of the Commonwealth and a longtime resident of Lexington, Kentucky, and traversed these earthly bounds on January 30, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Maurice P. Carpenter was retired from the Kentucky Department of Revenue, where he served the state for 31 years; and

WHEREAS, Maurice P. Carpenter was appointed and served as Commissioner of Revenue under Governor Wendell Ford and Governor Julian Carroll; and

WHEREAS, Maurice P. Carpenter graduated from Rose Hill High School and the University of Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, Maurice P. Carpenter proudly answered his nation's call by serving in the United States Army during World War II, where he was a 1st Lieutenant with the 1st Armored Division in Italy and North Africa; and

WHEREAS, Maurice P. Carpenter was the devoted and loving husband of Helen Lester Carpenter; and

WHEREAS, Maurice P. Carpenter was the beloved father of Emily Watts Carpenter Piercy and Cecil Douglas Carpenter; and

WHEREAS, Maurice P. Carpenter was the proud and loving grandfather of Justin Maurice Piercy, Adam Lawrence Piercy, David Malcolm Carpenter, and Jacob Cecil Carpenter; and

WHEREAS, Maurice P. Carpenter was the loving brother of Evelyn Carpenter Warner; and

WHEREAS, Maurice P. Carpenter was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Lee and Amanda Ellen Foster Carpenter, and seven siblings: Allen Carpenter, Cecil Carpenter, Frank Carpenter, his twin brother Marshall Carpenter, Valley Carpenter MeGee, Beatrice Carpenter Shuel, and Amanda Belle Carpenter; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Maurice P. Carpenter has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Maurice P. Carpenter, and extends to his family and friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. The Senate recognizes that Maurice P. Carpenter was loved and respected by his family, friends, and community and the members further acknowledge his faithful service to this Commonwealth in the Department of Revenue and his brave service to this nation during World War II.

Section 3. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Maurice P. Carpenter.
