Application Information and Conditions

About the Scholarship

The BEC Creating Leaders Scholarship 2011 is an initiative of the Brisbane Executive Club (BEC) alumni chapter for QUT postgraduate business alumni and students. The goal of the Scholarship is to further BEC’s mission of supporting the career advancement of its members through:

  • providing innovative professional development opportunities, careerand social networking for members
  • communication, consultation and cooperation
  • providing programs to strengthen connections between members
  • enhancing the public image and presence of the QUTBusinessSchool through its alumni
  • informing members about the activities of the GraduateSchool and the University
  • promoting QUT as the University for the Real World and BEC as an innovative alumni association for the real world.

The successful candidate for the BEC Creating Leaders Scholarship 2011 will have the opportunity to undertake professional executive coaching for one year, in 2012, with one of Australia’s leading executive coaching firms, Creating Leaders.

Inclusions

The scholarship includes the opportunity to enhance your leadership skills and effectiveness through:

  • a personal assessment of your coaching needs with a qualified and accredited Creating Leaders coach
  • 10 executive coaching sessions over 10 months with the Creating Leaders coach/es matched to your coaching needs, i.e. one coaching session per month for 10 months. The Scholarship is valued at approximately $5500.

Eligibility

Application is open to all BEC members – QUT postgraduate business alumni and students – who attend at least three of the four BEC Creating Leaders Leadership Workshops in 2011.


Participation

The successful applicant must allocate the time and energy needed to fully participate inthe 10 executive coaching sessions to be offered by Creating Leaders, as outlined under Conditions of the Scholarship on page 3.

Application Details

Applicationsmust be word processed, submitted by Tuesday, 4 October, 2011, be 500 words or less and contain:

  • A brief summary of your background and career aspirations
  • A statement addressing the Selection Criteria below, including answers to the following questions:
  • What personal and professional benefit/s did you receive from participating in the BEC Creating Leaders Leadership Workshop Series?
  • How wouldthe Scholarship benefit you in the future?

In addition to the 500 word Scholarship application document above, the written application must include:

  • Applicant’s full name, address and contact details (including email)
  • Applicant’s brief CV
  • Names and contact details of two professional referees who will support the Applicant’s application.

Selection Criteria

The following achievements and attributes will form the basis of the selection panel’s decision regarding the winner of the BEC Creating Leaders Scholarship 2011:

  • Potential for the Scholarship to add value to the applicant’s career development
  • Willingness to provide a testimonial to both BEC and Creating Leaders and support the activities of BEC
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated contribution to business and/or the community
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities.
  • Ability to fully immerse oneself in the scholarship program

Application and Selection Process

Applicants will be shortlisted on the basis of their written application, which must be submitted by midnight, Tuesday, 4 October, 2011 (the evening of the fourth and final 2011 BEC Creating Leaders Leadership Workshop).

Judging will start the week following the final workshop and may include interviews with applicants. Should an Applicant be required for an interview, they will be notified via telephone and email within two weeks of their application being submitted. Applicants may be tested on workshop content.

The Judging Panel will consist of representatives from Creating Leaders, BEC, and QUT Graduate School of Business. The selection panel reserves the right to determine not to award the scholarship. The decision of the selection panel is final and binding on all applicants and no correspondence will be entered into.

Presentation of Scholarship

The Scholarship will be presented at BEC’s final event of the year, to be held in November 2011 – date and details to be confirmed and announced prior to the application closing date. The Scholarship recipient should be available to attend this event.

Conditions of the Scholarship

The submission of an Application is your agreement to the conditions of this award, as follow.

  1. The successful Applicant must commit to dedicating the time and energy necessary to fully participate in the executive coaching experience with Creating Leaders throughout 2012. This includes participation in a pre-coaching assessment meeting, 10 executive coaching sessions and all between-session ‘homework’ as agreed with the Applicant’s Creating Leaders coach.
  2. The Scholarship recipient will be required to update the BECcommittee of progress at the conclusion of the scholarship coaching sessions.
  3. The Scholarship recipient will be required to provide a testimonial about their coaching experience to BEC and Creating Leaders. They will be also invited to speak about their Scholarship experience at a future BEC event and encouraged to continue their participation in BEC activities.
  4. The Applicant indemnifies, releases and saves harmless the committee of BEC, QUT and sponsors against all Claims which may be made or brought against the BEC committee, QUT or sponsors by negligent act or omission of the Applicant to the extent allowed by law.
  5. The Applicant releases and discharges the BEC committee, QUT and sponsors from any such action, proceeding, claim, demand, cost, loss, damage or expense which but for the provisions of this clause might be brought against or made upon them by the Applicant.
  6. Due Date of Application

All applications must be received bymidnight, Tuesday, 4 October, 2011.

Applicants must make themselves available for an interview at QUT Gardens Point campus within two weeks of the closing date for applications. If required for an interview, Applicants will be contacted by a representative of the Scholarship judging panel to notify the date, time and venue of the interview.
