A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE THE MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND DEDICATION OF MAYOR WILLIAM EDWARD WHITE TO THE CITY OF COWPENS IN SPARTANBURG COUNTY AND TO WISH HIM WELL IN HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, the Honorable William Edward White was born on January 29, 1934, in Spartanburg County, grew up in the White Stone Community near the Town of Pacolet, is a 1952 graduate of Cowpens High School, and is a lifelong resident of Spartanburg County; and
Whereas, he is married to the former Rebecca Ann Threadgill, and together they are the proud parents of three children; and
Whereas, Mayor White is a retired employee of the HoechstCelanese Corporation; and
Whereas, he is a faithful member of Salem Methodist Church in the City of Cowpens, a member and past president of the Cowpens Lions Club, a member of the South Carolina Municipal Association, and a past president of the Spartanburg County Municipal Association; and
Whereas, he served on the Cowpens City Council from 1976 until he was elevated to the office of Mayor of the City of Cowpens in 1991, an office he has held continuously since then; and
Whereas, it has come to the attention of the members of the House of Representatives that Mayor White will leave his position as mayor next month to spend more time with his wife and grandchildren; and
Whereas, the people of Cowpens have been blessed by the long tenure of their conscientious public servant, Mayor William Edward White, whose leadership has resulted in a better quality of life for its residents. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives recognize the many accomplishments and dedication of Mayor William Edward White to the City of Cowpens in Spartanburg County and wish him well in his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mayor William Edward White.
