Chapter224,enactedbytheMassachusettslegislatureinJuly2012,authorizes$60millionbeallocatedtothe

PreventionandWellnessTrustFund(PWTF)overfouryears. Atleast75%ofthesefundsaretobedistributedto community-basedpartnershipsincludingmunicipalities,healthcaresystems,businesses,regionalplanning organizations,andschools.Thegoalisforthesegroupstoworktogethertoprovideresearch-basedinterventions thatwill:

• reduceratesofthemostprevalentandpreventablehealthconditions;

• increasehealthybehaviors;

• increasetheadoptionof workplace-basedwellnessor healthmanagementprograms;

• addresshealthdisparities.

DPHis dedicatedtoengagingstakeholderstoobtaincommunityinputforwritingtheRFRtodistributefunds from thePWTF.Tothatend,DPHis consideringseveralimportantissuestoassurethatmunicipalitiesandtheir regionalhealthcaresystemsworktogethertocreateasharedresponsibilityto preventandcontrolchronic diseaseintheircommunity.
