Locum Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist – Rockhampton (up to 18 months)

Genesis CancerCare (part of the GenesisCare group) is the largest provider of radiation therapy in Australia. Each year the group performs around 360,000 treatments through its network of 26 sites.

THE ROLE

The radiation therapy serviceat the Rockhampton hospital commenced in June 2016 with the commissioning of two Elekta Versa HD linear Accelerators. We are seeking to fill atemporary medical physics position, for a period of up to 18 months.

The successful applicant is expected to take an active role in the development of physics services and to establish and support the local team. The successful applicant will also be supported by the existing medical physics network.

The Locum Medical Physicist will be responsible for:

  • Providing specialist-level knowledge, expertise and skills in clinical practice standards of radiation oncology medical physics.
  • Ability to provide clinical advice regarding professional standards and clinical service development, and provide clinical training to other staff disciplines.
  • Leading change through quality and service improvement activities
  • Managing service efficiency and responsiveness
  • Delivering safe and exceptional quality service to all stakeholders

Specific salary details will depend on the successful applicant’s background and level of experience, and is negotiable.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Minimum Skills, Knowledge and Experience required for the position:

  • Eligible for listing on the ACPSEM register of qualified medical physics specialists in Radiation Oncology Medical Physics
  • Successful completion of a training programme leading to accreditation by the ACPSEM or equivalent certification
  • Perform routine physics tasks including but not limited to routine equipment quality assurance, patient specific quality assurance (e.g. IMRT/RapidArc) and treatment planning support
  • Ability to work independently to a high level of scientific achievement
  • Demonstrated high levels of communication and interpersonal skills in a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience in managing the implementation of specialty equipment or programs
  • Experience in leading teams and managing resources
  • Capable of self-directed work and possesses excellent problem solving skills

Rockhampton is Central Queensland’s major city and boasts a thriving community with a broad mix of residential lifestyles (inner city, riverside, urbanvillage, coastal and rural).Rockhampton locals have access to attractions such as the Great Barrier Reef, Great Keppel and Lady Musgrave Islands, Byfield National Park, The Caves (caving, abseiling, Opera in the Caves), The Gemfields, and is gateway to the Great Australian Outback.

Rockhampton is also an educational hub, with the main campus of Queensland’s first dual-sector university (CQUniversity).

The newly constructed comprehensive Cancer Centre at Rockhampton Hospital is part of the Hospital’s $244m expansion project. The Radiation Therapy Department is licensed to operate 2 state of the art linear accelerators, a simulation CT and planning system combined.

The integrated network will be linked to a tertiary facility improving patient access to clinical trials and research. As part of the integrated network, the Central Queensland Regional Cancer Centre and GenesisCare will partner to provide on-campus education, training and peer support to grow and develop a sustainable and high quality workforce to meet the future health needs of the community.

This facility has been purpose built to provide an excellent continuum of care for oncology patients, with the radiation and medical oncology services integrated through advanced patient management software, allowing centralised management of and access to patient records.
