Invite you to attend the upcoming webcast:
“Ramping Up Professional Support for WIC Moms”
Initial Broadcast: September 13, 2016
08:30 AM - 10:00 AM CST
(This webcast may be viewed for CEU until July 4, 2017)
The numbers of WIC women choosing to breastfeed has never been higher in the U.S. However, the numbers of mothers who continue to breastfeed and to do so exclusively has not changed much through the years, indicating that while many women start out wanting to breastfeed, many do not continue, often due to challenges that arise in the early postpartum period. This session will focus on some of the complex situations that can arise for new mothers, along with the important role of professional support from International Board Certified Lactation Consultants®. The session will review scope of practice, options for WIC clinics without access to an IBCLC, and requirements for becoming an IBCLC.
OBJECTIVES:
Following the webcast teleconference, participants will be able to:
1. Identify at least two types of complex breastfeeding situations in which professional support is recommended.
2. Name at least two ways professional support from an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant impacts breastfeeding success.
3. Identify the general scope of practice for a peer counselor.
4. Give at least one example of a staffing model using an IBCLC in a WIC clinic setting.
5. Name the four basic criteria for becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.
