Standard 3: Participates regularly in physical activity

Benchmark A: Engage in regular physical activity inside and outside of school to meet national recommendations for daily physical activity

Task: Physical Activity Recall

Students will recall the amount of physical activity completed over the course of a seven-day week (including weekends). Each student receives a copy of the physical activity pyramid worksheet. Students will refer to the pyramid to identify possible physical activities.

Look at the activity pyramid. On the seven day activity worksheet, list physical activities that you participated in during the week. Write down how many minutes you were engaged in each activity. Decide of the activity would be considered light (L), moderate (M), or vigorous (V). Put one of these markings (L, M, V) next to each activity.

Use the calendar to keep track of your activities

Types of activities/exercises:

Everyday Activities: / play outside, take the stairs, clean house, work in yard, shopping, etc.
Aerobic Exercises
*(A)= 3-5X/wk: / at least 20 minutes of sustained physical activity that will keep your heart rate in your target heart rate zone; running, swimming, biking, skateboarding, rollerblading, Wii, Kinect, etc.
Recreational Activities *(R)= 3-5X/wk: / at least 20 minutes of physical activity; volleyball, basketball, soccer, skiing, paintball, etc.
Leisure & Playtime *(L/P)= 2-3X/wk: / activities that makes you move, but are easy and do not keep your heart rate up for an extended period of time; canoeing, tumbling golf, trapshooting, laserquest, etc.
Strength & Flexibility *(S/F)= 2-3X/wk: / activities that do not keep your heart rate up for an extended amount of time, but require strength & flexibility; dancing, rope climbing, martial arts, sit-ups/pull-ups, workout tapes, etc.
*LABEL your activities with (A),(R), (L/P), (S/F) each time you do them
Keep in mind; you should be doing various different activities to accumulate your 60 minutes a day (some may be light, moderate, and/or vigorous.
