DEPARTMENT:Research and Business Development (Commercial and Client Services)

Responsible to: Marketing Manager

Main Purpose of Job:

To develop and implementtargeted business to business marketing for research and innovation to support the commercial development of products and services and to help build the reputation of the University for research and innovation.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties:

  • To develop and implement targeted marketing campaigns to build the income and reputation of the University in research and innovation
  • To develop and deliver externally focussed marketing promotions for the University’s research and innovation capability and other services to business
  • To develop and deliver marketing to promote the Office, its roles and responsibilities and specific initiatives internally to the University
  • Support Faculties to plan and implement targeted business to business campaigns for marketing commercial products and services through a wide range of channels including social media and variety of target markets and segments
  • Support Research Institutes to collate and record impact from research and communicate successes through case studies and other means for REF2020 and pathways to impact for funding applications.
  • To update research and innovationprofiles on the University’s research web pages with good news stories and PR opportunities
  • To update the University’s Business web pages so that they are refreshed and enhanced with good news stories, events and case studies/client testimonials in text and digital format
  • To commission the production of marketing materials including posters, brochures, flyers, direct mail, websites etc relevant to campaigns
  • To plan and run events and webinars that support marketing campaigns
  • To co-ordinate appropriate budgets including supervising payments, invoices, purchase orders and expense claims associated with the marketing activity
  • Ensure close liaison with the University’s Corporate Communications team to use success stories to raise the profile of research and commercial activity across the University
  • Support the development of the University’s brand guidelines to include business to business marketing and communication requirements and champion the University’s brand guidelines so they are used at all times.
  • To carry out and commission market research.
  • To ensure marketing for business to business activities is coordinated with the business to consumer marketing for student recruitment and supports the corporate communications activities.
  • To support the business to business customer relationship management system to ensure the data is up to date and produces effective management information and to champion its appropriate use across the University
  • To be alert to possibilities for improving efficiency and effectiveness of the team and make recommendations for improvements
  • Any other duties as required by the line manager as are consistent with the broad purpose and grade of the post grade (or below)

KNOWLEDGE

  • Significant knowledge and experienceof using marketing and communications tools and techniques across a range of channels in the business to business field
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of using digital media and of creating case studies / testimonials
  • Knowledge of using CRM systems for client relationships and information management

EXPERIENCE
Essential / Desirable
  • Experience of owning, devising and implementing B2B marketing and promotional campaigns
  • Experience of managing content and web development in a similar environment
  • Managing PR campaigns, including creating media lists, drafting releases
  • Undertaking a marketing service in a multi-stakeholder environment
  • Campaign and event organisation including the production of publicity materials and mail-shots
  • Experience of using social media tools and platforms

  • Experience of marketing funded initiatives and programmes
  • Preparation and implementation of marketing plans
  • Knowledge of external support services and networks for business

TRAINING

  • A degree in a subject relevant to the marketing field
