3.  Choose one or more books from the attached list (or choose one of your own favorites).

4.  Choose one of the projects listed in this packet to complete.

5.  Return your completed project to your teacher during the first week of school.

Reading over the summer will help your child to maintain the progress they have made in the previous school year. This will ensure a successful start to the school year.

Directions:

·  Students are to read or be read to for at least one hour per week.

·  Book may be chosen from the attached list, or you may choose your own.

·  Students should read 9 out of the 10 weeks. Mark an X in the box for the week you choose not to read.

·  Help your child complete the project for ONE of the books that you read.

·  Return complete log and project to your classroom teacher within the first week of school.

·  Students who complete the CSD Summer Reading activities will be recognized and rewarded for their participation.

After reading choices for your projects:

1.  Complete the Story Map (graphic organizer) attached to this packet.

2.  Write an alternate ending to the book.

3.  Create a poster including the following information:

a.  Title, author, main characters

b.  A brief response stating reasons why you liked or disliked the book/poem

c.  A visual display that represents an important event in the book/poem

4.  Create a media presentation (power point, brochure) that includes the following information:

a.  Title, author, main characters
