Show PINK and Ride TARC FREE on October 13
To show its support of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and breast cancer research, TARC will allow anyone wearing pink on Saturday, October 13 to ride public transportation for free throughout Louisville. The 17th Annual Race For The Cure, which includes a 5K and 10K run/walks, a one-mile family walk and race sponsor village and Kids FunZone area, will take place at 9 a.m. on Oct. 13 at Iroquois Park. The race route begins at the park entrance near Kenwood Drive and New Cut Road. Race officials are encouraging participants to carpool to designated parking sites north of the park in addition to riding TARC to reduce traffic congestion around the event area. For more information on those parking sites, visit www.komenlouisville.org.
TARC offers two routes – Route #4 and Route #6 – that provide direct service to Iroquois Park. These routes pick up passengers in downtown, Old Louisville, the Churchill Downs area and other points in south Louisville. Visit www.ridetarc.org for more information.
Again, while routes #4 and #6 can get riders to the Race for the Cure, anyone wearing pink on Oct. 13 can ride TARC throughout Louisville that day.
City Sponsors First Ever CycLOUvia Event
Mayor Greg Fischer announced that Bardstown Road/Baxter Avenue, from Broadway to the Douglass Loop, will close to vehicular traffic on Sunday, October 14, from 2 – 6 p.m. to become a paved linear park, where residents and visitors can bike, walk, skate, and dance. Louisville’s CycLOUvia is part of Kentucky’s 2nd Sunday Open Streets program, the only statewide program of its kind in the country. It is designed to encourage more communities to close streets to cars and open them to people. Fischer is encouraging people to donate funds to support the event through a Kickstarter fundraising campaign. During the event, the two middle lanes will be open to bicycle use, and the two outer curb lanes will be used only for pedestrians and other non-bicycle uses. The route will have police-assisted vehicle crossings at specified main intersections. For more information, and for a link to the Kickstarter fundraiser, go to www.cyclouvia.org.

Free training will soon be available for people who want to become long-distance moving van drivers.
