Noschoolwillmakeavailable foruseandpublicaccessanyauto- maticexternaldefibrillator device(AED)thatisnotFDA-approved forpublicaccessdefibrillation.

TheDistrictnursingservicescoordinatorwilladministertheAED

programandwillserveascoordinatorfortheAEDprogram.

Thecoordinatorwillprovidecardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) and AEDtrainingtocampusnurses,andtocampusfirstrespond- ers. Certified athletictrainers,andcoaches andwillprovideCPR andAEDtrainingwithintheirdepartment.OthercertifiedCPR/AED instructors willassistwithtrainingemployeesthroughoutthedis- trict. Thenursingservicescoordinatorwillcommunicate withlocal emergency service(EMS)providersandwillinformalllocalEMS providersoftheexistence,location,andtypeofAEDavailablein theDistrict.

The medicaldirectorfor EctorCountyISD willserveasthemedical directorfortheDistrict’s AEDprogramwithinhisroleofdirecting healthservices.

TheBoardmayacceptpublicgiftsofAEDsforplacementatschool campuses. [SeeCDC] TheDistrictmaypurchaseAEDsifidenti- fiedintheapprovedbudget.[SeeCE]

TheEmergency Operations PlanningTeamwillfacilitateCPR/AED trainingsessions offeredtoemployees.Allinstructorswillbecerti- fiedandwilluseeitherthe AmericanRedCrossorthe American Heart Associationcurriculum. Trainingwillbevalidforoneschool yearandofferedannually. Campusnurseswillschedule periodic practice oftheskillslearned inthetraining. Athletic trainers will conducttheperiodicpracticewithintheAthleticsDepartment.

WhenanAEDisused,thecoordinatorwillpromptlynotifylocal EMSproviders andwillprovideacasereviewtotheSuperinten- dentandtheMedicalDirector.

Thecampusnursewillscheduleperiodicmaintenance andtesting ofequipment,accordingtothemanufacturer’s guidelines.Health ServicesDepartmentwillmaintainthemaintenancerecords.

Theprogramcoordinator andtheathleticdirectorwillsubmita maintenancerequestintheannualbudget. Whenan AEDisno longerserviceable, theitemwillbedeletedfromthecampus equipment inventoryandforwarded tothecentralofficefordispos- al.[SeeCI]

Thecampusprincipalsandathleticdirector,inconsultationwiththe programcoordinator,willdeterminethelocationofeachAED.
