#ChooseConnor
Connor Delany for Block of 15
My record:
- VP Welfare & Community, Lincoln SU
- Pushed to make sanitary products freely available in all SU buildings and venues
- Secured £10k to combat hate crime on campus to fund preventative measures
- Secured £10k to support the work of liberation groups on campus
- Banned to-let boards in student areas of Lincoln
- Support SUs to have elected Parent & Carers Representatives
- Campaign to make NUS events more carer and child friendly
Better Support for Student Carers
Student parents and carers need a voice in student politics. Having a Parents & Carers
Rep on NEC is a great first step, but it doesn’t go far enough. I want to support a well-funded,centrally-supported Parents & Carers campaign that can work in NUS and oncampuses.
I WILL:
- Support Sus to introduce elected Parent and Carers Representatives
- Campaign to make NUS events more carer and child friendly
Better Mental Health Provision
It was a disappointment to hear that most Universities and Colleges have almost no initiativesin place to support students with their mental health. For too long mental health campaignshave been silenced or overlooked, and I want to help you change that.
I WILL:
- Work with the NUS VP Welfare to train SU staff as mental health first aiders
- Help you lobby your institution to better fund mental health services on your campus
Better Housing
NUS needs to be supporting Unions in lobbying against restrictive local housing practices andpushing for a basic minimum standard in all student housing.
I WILL:
- Campaign against local authorities’ use of Article 4 to restrict student housing being built
- Support you in running housing campaigns on your campus
I'M BACKING CONNOR BECAUSE...
“As Vice President Welfare & Community at Lincoln Union, Connor has worked really hard to support access to education for all students. I know he will continue that work on the NUS NEC"
Joe Cox, Vice President (Art, Design, Media & Performing Arts) at MDXSU
I believe that it’s important to be open and honest about my politics. I am standing as a member of Labour Students because I believe in social justice and equality. However, I am not afraid to disagree with my party and I will always put the interests of students first.
