SUMMIT SCHOLAR PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

SUMMIT SCHOLAR PROGRAM HISTORY AND PURPOSE
Ø SUMMIT was created in 2002 to better serve our highly motivated and achieving students by offering them yet one more reason to choose Bowie High School. Our goal is to provide high instructional standards and systemic support to help engaged, aspiring students develop and challenge themselves academically and become the most competitive college applicants they can be.
Ø The SUMMIT Class of 2015 was our tenth graduating class.
Ø The philosophy of the SUMMIT program is based on the College Board’s Vertical Team structure which helps students achieve in Advanced Placement courses. These AP courses are rigorous, and students need to prepare early for success. Highly able and motivated students like those in SUMMIT would achieve some level of success in AP with or without the SUMMIT program, but we hope to increase their success even more by implementing AP skills and strategies early. SUMMIT students take intensive pre-AP core courses freshman and sophomore year (special SUMMIT-only sections of honors courses) in order to prepare them for AP classes during their sophomore, junior and senior years.
Ø Please see apstudent.collegeboard.org for more information about Advanced Placement.
