COMMANDER FRANK B. OGDEN

Commander Ogden graduated from the United StatesNavalAcademy in May of 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in General Engineering. During his time at USNA he played four years of varsity football and was the captain of the team his senior year. He remained at USNA for the following year to coach football while waiting to start flight school.

His Naval Aviator Training took place in Pensacola, Florida where he was designated a Naval Aviator in December 1994. He completed Fleet Replacement Training in the SH-60F/HH-60H Seahawk helicopter at Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron ONE (HS 1), Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida.

Upon completion of the FRS he reported to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron THREE (HS-3) in June of 1996. CDR Ogden was a member of the “Tridents” of HS-3 until November 1999. During that time he completed deployments aboard USS JOHN F KENNEDY (CV 67) and USS THEORDORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) and served as the Line Division Officer, Personnel Officer, NATOPS Officer and Quality Assurance Officer.

After his tour with HS-3, he reported to shore duty in Patuxent River, Maryland with Air Test and Evaluation Squadron ONE (VX-1) where he served until April 2002. At VX-1 he was an operational test pilot and was the Operational Test Director (OTD) for several projects including the APR-39A (V) 2 and the AQS-22 Airborne Low Frequency Sonar System (ALFS).

CDR Ogden returned to sea duty when he reported to Carrier Air Wing THREE (CVW-3) where he served as the Assistant Operations Officer, Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) Officer, Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Officer and primary Air plan writer until November 2003. He deployed aboard USS HARRY S TRUMAN (CVN 75) during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

After the completion of his air wing staff tour, he reported to HS-3 for his operational department head tour which concluded in June 2006. During his time at HS-3 he served as the Admin Officer, Maintenance Officer and Operations Officer. He deployed aboard USS ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) and concurrently operated with British Joint Helicopter Force- Iraq (JHF-I) in Basra, Iraq. During this tour he was recognized as the National Helicopter Association’s Region Three Pilot of the Year as well as the COMHSCWINGLANT’s Leadership Award winner for calendar year 2005.

CDR Ogden was next assigned as a student to the College of Naval Warfare at the NavalWarCollege in Newport, RI, where he earned a Masters of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies. In July 2007 CDR Ogden reported to the Pentagon where he served as a Protocol Officer for the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

During his tours CDR Ogden has accumulated over 3000 flight hours and has earned the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (Strike/Flight), four Navy Commendation Medals, two Navy Achievement Medals and numerous unit and campaign deployment awards.

CDR Ogden and his wife, Chris, have four children, Hannah (14), Trey (10), Elizabeth (8) and Nicole (8).
