The Planning Department of the City of Phoenix is excited toinform you about an internshipopportunity. The Planning department guides the physical development of the city. Examples of the department's work include implementation of the Phoenix General Plan; administration and updating of the Zoning Ordinance; processing of rezoning requests and general plan amendments; development of area and neighborhood plans; development of long range growth strategies; development and implementation of freeway mitigation programs; and support of the various committees.
Due to fiscal limitations, we are not able to offer this internship opportunity as a paid internship. We are seeking candidates to serve as non-paid interns. We are asking interns to make a commitment of a minimum of 20 hours per week, with a minimum of 4 hours per day, for a total commitment of 320 hours (16 weeks).
The selected interns will be provided with excellent mentoring and career development opportunities. Attached is a summary of some of the learning opportunities that will be extended to the interns.
In addition to the many benefits of working as a Planning Department Intern, there will also be an opportunity to participate in an overview of Development Services Department operations. A description of those potential opportunities is included in the attached summary.
The selection process will consist of the following:
· Submittal of a completed application (to be submitted NO LATER THAN May 8, 2009) and resume.
· 2 references (to be submitted NO LATER THAN May 8, 2009)
· 3-5 member panel interview process (May 18-29, 2009)
· Submittal of a writing sample (Intern will provide on date of interview)
· Selected Interns start date: (first part of June 2009)
We anticipate that the interview process will occur during the timeframe of May 18-29, 2009. We will schedule all interested applicants as soon as we receive the application, resume, and two references (due no later than May 8, 2009).
