A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Robert Foster Via.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Robert Foster Via, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, Robert Foster Via was born on October 28, 1918, a native of Waynesboro, Virginia, and longtime resident of Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on January 27, 2002; and

WHEREAS, Robert Foster Via was the loving son of the late Charles William Via and Barbara Elizabeth Foster Via, and he also was preceded in death by a grandson, Timothy McGehee Marsh; he was the devoted husband of fifty-seven years to Dorothy Williamson McGehee Via, and he was the adored father of four loving and admiring daughters and sons-in-law, Elisabeth Burns Via and Frank Stanley Virden, Dore Hartridge and Robert Bruce Dumas, Jennifer McGehee and David Hatcher Marsh, and Cary Louise and Richard Charles Kovacik; and he was the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren, Wesley Delwyn and Marci Jamrog Bonds, Charles Cary and Shannon Little Bonds, Aaron Scott Laird, Amanda Catherine and Samuel Christopher Peterson, Michael Stuart Dumas, Andrew Christopher and Cathryne Cate Marsh, Mary Elizabeth Kovacik, Richard Matthew Kovacik, and Gracen Lila Kovacik, and two great-grandchildren, Seth Andrew Marsh and Anne Elise Bonds; and

WHEREAS, Robert Foster Via was a retired United States Air Force Lieutenant Colonel; he spent twenty-six years as a pilot and a logistics officer, and he served his country with pride and distinction during World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War, and during his career, he served in North Africa, Italy, and Saudi Arabia; and he was a member of the American Legion, Post 22, and the Louisville Retired Officers' Club; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Robert Foster Via has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its utter sense of bereavement upon the passing of Robert Foster Via, and extends to his family and friends its most profound and deepest sympathy.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this date, it does so in loving memory and honor of Robert Foster Via. He was a member of the Mt. Sterling First Presbyterian Church, and his funeral service was held on January 31, 2002, at Riverview Cemetery in Waynesboro, Virginia, his boyhood home.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Dr. Jennifer McGehee Marsh, Gregnon Farm, 4780 Paris Pike, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky 40353.
