Meeting Minutes

June 16, 2015

Attendance: Lily Osborn, Kayleigh Porter, Mary Ellen Schreck, Kathy Weibel, Kathleen Martinez, Tammy Pifer, Stephanie Furnas, Donna Driscoll, Stacy Dickerson, Paula Fox, Lori Rowe, Nancy Moore

Approval of March 2015 Minutes:

Introductions were followed by review of the March minutes. Kathy Weibel requested that a correction be made to the minutes regarding the documentation of notification from First Steps. The minutes should read; The LEA documents the date they receive the 30 day notice as the official date of notification. Donna Driscoll made a motion to approve the minutes with the correction noted. Paula Fox second. Minutes approved.

Updates:

  1. First Steps Updates:

There is a new State Director, Shirley Huntsman. Shirley previously worked as a SPOE Supervisor for Cluster J.

Mary Ellen Schreck is now the Service Coordinator Supervisor, replacing Angela Gehring. Angela is now an Intake Coordinator for children 32mos+.

  1. School Updates:

FWCS: Discussed summer hours. They have added additional days for transition meetings this fall in order to accommodate referrals. New FWCS school hours of 7:15-3:15 will have some effect on scheduling transition meetings. Discussed impact of new FWCS transportation policy, i.e. will only transport within 1 mile of school or home. The Committee members shared concerns regarding transportation of special needs children to/from daycare.

  1. Head Start Updates:

CANI has changed their name to Brightpoint. Working with “On My Way Pre-K” , determining availability for more full day spots. Recruiting for 2015-16 school year will begin the week before Labor Day. Early Head Start has 52 slots in Allen Co. with several openings due to several transitions to Head Start in the fall. Tammy will email the application to members of the LPCC. Brightpoint now has a Burmese speaking home visitor for their programs.

  1. Agencies:

PNE has hired a Social Worker with extensive experience in early intervention, attachment disorders, behavior and autism spectrum disorders

HIH has hired 10 new providers including an OTR, Dietician and SLP’s

Homefront – no update

  1. SCAN/Healthy Families:

Lori Rowe shared that they are experiencing difficulty with staff turnover and therefore serving less children/families.

  1. MOA’s were discussed however due to low attendance by LEA’s, Lily will follow up at a later date.

Child Find

Kayleigh participated in fairs at East Allen Co. Schools and Taylor University. The events did not generate referrals as most children were 3+, however Kayleigh was pleased with the public relations/marketing opportunity. It was suggested that she explore the McMillan Center Carnivals that are held every Wednesday during the summer.

Meeting Schedule

A proposal was made to change meeting months to February, May, August and November for 2016. For the remainder of 2015, the LPCC will meet in September and November.
