  1. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Set up and adjust difficult machine tools under minimum supervision; standardize and prescribe operational sequences and procedures and procedures; handle necessary variations; prove-out set ups – adjust when necessary; inspect product; assign and train machine operators; attend company training courses.

  1. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Operates all common machine shop equipment and hand tools skillfully.
  • Operate machines to prove-out set ups and produce pilot pieces for inspection purposes. Re-adjust the machines and tool settings and act as an inspector when so assigned.
  • Set ups involve the changing of machine chucks, collets, face plates, clamping devices, etc., to perform machining operations such as turn, bore face, mill, drill, ream, etc.
  • Assign and train machine operators to operate machines after set ups are made and checked out to improve their skills.
  • Coordinate activities closely with production scheduling, engineering and other departments to maintain production schedules, methods, procedures, quality of work, etc.
  • Works from prints or drawings to produce a variety of items.
  • Produces precision items beyond the capabilities of production machine operators.
  • Follows lockout-tagout procedures when machines must be shut down for repair.
  • Work from part drawings, handbooks, specifications, set up instructions, etc.
  • Use a variety ofprecision measuring instruments such as scale, calipers, indicators, and gauges.
  1. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • Graduate of technical school, a full apprenticeship program, or completion of in-company four-year training program to satisfaction of plant training committee.
  • Ability to read directions, job orders, prints, and specifications.
  • At least a year of experience as a fully qualifiedmachinist.
  • Visual acuity (corrected) to read directions and prints and to inspect machined parts closely to ensure that they meet specifications.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate machinery for precision work.
