Volleyball Tournament

Coaches and Players,
Welcome to the 2013 Capitol City Invitational. As the host of this year’s tournament, the OLYMPIA HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL PROGRAM hopes to put on another great event. Below, you will find details of the tournament, including pool play and tie-breaking criteria.
The basics:
Doors open at 7am.
Pool play begins at 8am.
Coaches/officials meeting will be at 7:30 in the coaches/officials hospitality room (west hallway).
Teams assigned to ref will provide:
Down ref, scorekeeper, score flipper, libero tracker,and 2 line judges.
The down ref should be an EXPERIENCED adult/coach.
Please be sure your crew is attentive to their duties.
Team gathering areas will be in the commons/cafeteria...no balls allowed (except in the gyms)
PLEASE clean your team area before you leave.
The main gym floor should be clear of spectators (other than handicapped individuals).
Admission: $5 for adults and students w/o ASB, $3 for students with ASB
FYI - we MAY have an athletic trainer on site for emergencies, during the tournament
Format:
- Four pools of 4 teams each, followed by modified double elimination bracket play.
Pool play will consist of 2 sets to 25, with a 27-point cap.
The top two teams in each bracket will advance to the Championship Bracket and the 3rd and 4th place teams in each pool will advance to the Consolation Bracket.
Bracket play will be best 2-out-of-3 sets, to 25 points, no cap. Set 3, if necessary, will be to 15 points, no cap. Bracket play is scheduled to begin at 1pm.
- Pool play results and tie-breaking criteria will be based on the following:
- Win/loss record during pool play
- Head to head win/loss record
- Head to head point differential among the tied teams
- Overall pool play points
- One game to 15 points, 17 point cap
- Refereeing assignments (see jobs above) will be adjusted as needed, especially during bracket play, in order to move ahead in the schedule. Please be prepared for changes.
- Warm-up time will be 5-5-2 for each team’s first match of pool play, followed by 2-2-1 for all matches, thereafter.
5. An All-tournament team will be selected from among the top four teams. Coaches, please be prepared to nominate one or two of your players near the end of the bracket play.
As mentioned previously, teams have been seeded into the tournament. However, consideration was given to placement within a pool for travel andfirst round assignments.
