Proclamation
WHEREAS, First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon is commemorating its 150th anniversary on April 12, 2016, with it’s wonderful congregation and visitors coming together to help celebrate this marvelous event; and
WHEREAS, On April 7, 1866, the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon was organized by seven faithful Christians who had a vision of a church serving the needs of the town and community; and
WHEREAS, over the years the congregation of the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon, Missouri, has been abundantly blessed with leadership and guidance in the Lord’s word, beginning with Pastor Henry C. Lollar to the current Pastor Timothy R. Burgess, all whom have played an integral role in spiritual guidance; and
WHEREAS, throughout its rich history, the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon, Missouri has triumphed over many obstacles to become a strong and respected congregation in Lawrence County, and the City of Mount Vernon, Missouri; and
WHEREAS, the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon has grown from its humble beginnings to many expansions and renovations thru the years, including the most recent in 2011, which includes the Fellowship Hall and Adult Education wing; and
WHEREAS, the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon is known, admired, and respected throughout the Mount Vernon, Missouri community as a divine proclaimer of faith and as a friend to those in need, and continues a fine tradition of one hundred fifty years through commitment to meeting the spiritual needs of its members and community through the changing times and looking ahead to the future with God.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, that I, David W. Eden, Mayor of the City of Mount Vernon, Missouri hereby honor the 150th anniversary of First Baptist Church and proclaim Sunday, April 12, 2016 as First Baptist Church Day within the City and urge all the citizens of Mount Vernon to pay special tribute to this church on the occasion of their 150th anniversary.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of Mount Vernon, Missouri to be affixed this the 12th day of April, 2016.
