Wilder's Preparatory Academy Charter School

Give the Gift of Education

Dear ______,

A warm Spring afternoon, eating lunch around the gardens at the state Capitol building in Sacramento... waiting to see if the governor will come out from his office and greet us- only to make “tracks” down to Old Town Sacramento, full of western wonders. From here, spending the evening “swimming” away the day, and waking up the next morning in anticipation of what lies ahead. Oh, what’s this? Could it be? No…yes! It’s gold at Sutter’s Mill! Several monuments and treasures we’ll see this day, but don’t be “fooled”, there is still more to come. On the last leg of this journey, the gate we will enjoy. Yep, the Golden symbol of San Francisco, but that’s not the only one. We’ll find other gates on the cells at Alcatraz Island! Finally, we will “escape” and fly home full of abounding knowledge. No one could have guessed that Social Studies would be this entertaining!

I am planning to participate in aremarkable educational trip to Sacramento/San Franciscothis spring with my friends and classmates from Wilder’s Preparatory Academy Charter School! We’ll spend two days together learning really cool things about our state and history. Here are some of the awesome activities that are planned for us on the West Coast Tour program:

California State Capitol Building—Students will see their state legislature in action and may have the opportunity to meet with state representatives.

CaliforniaVietnam Veterans Memorial—Students will visit this $2.5 million memorial, designed by a Vietnam Veteran that was dedicated in 1988.

Old Town Sacramento—Students will be able to see historic buildings that contributed to the Pony Express and was influenced by the Big Four (Crocker, Hopkins, Huntington, and Stanford).

CaliforniaStateRailroadMuseum— This museum has the most extensive collection of railroad artifacts in North America. Students will learn the economic, political, social, and ecological transformations caused by the development of the Transcontinental Railroad.

Marshall Gold Discovery Park/Sutter’s Mill—Students will see the original spot where gold was found. They will interact with docents to fully understand the significance of the discovery and will be given a chance to pan for gold in troughs as well as the AmericanRiver.

SanFrancisco—Students will visit the Golden Gate Bridge, Ghirardelli Square, and have a tour of the city from the top of the hill back down to Pier 39 where they will dine.

AlcatrazIsland—Students will journey across the bay for an audio tour of the infamous island.

In order to take part in this totally unique adventure, I need to raise $785.00. Please help me by sponsoring a portion of my trip. Any contribution you could make would bring me that much closer to this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions or want to hear more about this exceptional learning opportunity. Academy National Tours is the educational travel company organizing our trip. You can check out their website at to see tons of photos and information about our trip. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
