Dear Dulcie:

It was a pleasure meeting with you on August 29th to discuss the Analyst position with Briar Hall. Speaking with you and Cathy only added to my interest to helping shape a company that is new but headed for an amazing future due to the caliber of the people involved. I want to be one of the people that helps Briar Hall to mature, and I feel confident that I can do great things for your company. However, I’m concerned you may still have some doubts regarding my qualifications for the job.

As we discussed during our meeting, my experience analyzing of fund of funds and private equity might be limited relative to other candidates. However, in my case, I believe this is not a weakness, but a strength. During my 14 years with Schroder Securities and Quaker Securities my ability to process new information and think on my feet made me a specialist in each new area I tackled. I am a quick learner and work best in situations where I am required to absorb new information every day. I thrive on intellectual challenges like applying theoretical concepts to real-life settings, acquiring technical competence, developing processes and systemizing repetitive tasks. I love to build relationships with people I consider to be big thinkers. I like to find patterns and organize ideas, and through my "out-of-the-box" thinking, develop user-friendly tools that will assist the trustees in their investment evaluation process. In these ways and more, I make a lasting impact on whatever company I work for.

I realize hiring an employee is a delicate process, especially in a new environment, and I understand the difficulty of your task. I want to make the decision to bring me to Briar Hall easier for you. So I am willing to “go the extra mile” to show my commitment, as well as my talents. I can perform a case study on an existing and/or potential investment from home in order to illustrate my process and the help I can offer trustees (this work would, of course, be completely confidential). I can also write a white paper on a subject of your choice to demonstrate my ability to think critically, build tools and solve problems.

I would love to work with you and the Brian Hall trustees, assist them in building an optimal portfolio, make an impact on their decisions and take pride in sharing their success – not only due to my affinity for the work I would be called upon to perform, but because I want so much to be a part of the right team. I strongly believe Briar Hall is the team for me. I hope that you do too.

Please don’t hesitate to call me if you have any questions.

With warm regards,

Sam
