ISO 12215-5 Validation project proposal
ScopeCo-ordination between all international parties who are validating ISO/DIS 12215-5, with the aim to get a world-wide feed-back on the predominant built motor and sailing yachts in FRP, steel, aluminium, composite and wood and to collate the findings into a comprehensive document, which may form the basis for a report. This report and the connected calculation programme will be presented to WG 18 and used as the basis of the final adjustment of ISO 12215-5, if the validation requires to do so.
BackgroundBefore ISO 12215-5 can be published by ISO/TC 188 WG 18 with confidence as FDIS, validation of all formulae need to take place by several parties, so that the output derived from it will reflect common good and modern boat building practice.
Feedback on the results obtained from these various validations has never been presented in one unique template. Therefore interpretations of these reports and the adjustments derived from them have become a vicious circle.
Furthermore it has been the opinion of the working group that information is missing on certain important yachts from large building communities and that effort should be made to involve these communities in this last validation possibility.
Finally it has been the opinion of the working group that input is missing from classification societies, notified bodies and yacht designers (other than those actively involved in WG 18).
Time scaleDecember 1st 2004 to March 1st 2005.
Project outline
- All validation data will be centrally collected and co-ordinated at the ICOMIA office.
- A unique template for collecting data will be drafted by G Dolto, K J Furustam and R Loscombe.
- The collection of data shall be performed by WG 18 members as indicated in the attached diagram. However data from other sources such as MIAs, builder, designers, class societies and/or notified bodies shall also be considered.
- Wherever possible the collection of data will be in close co-ordinator with WG 18 Adhoc group;
- The co-ordinator will point out areas where information is missing and will contact WG 18 members, MIAs, builders, with the aim to collect data from them;
- It is preferred to rather collect less data of good quality than more data of less quality.
- If possible data should be retraceable.
- A report/presentation shall be drafted after the data collection is completed. This shall be done by one expert or a small group of experts in close cooperation with WG 18 ADHOC group.
Items:
1)Part 5 - Final changes to part 5 as agreed in the meeting
2)Template - G Dolto, K J Furustam and R Loscombe R Loscome to establishing of a template for data collection.
3)Data collection & Data processing – As indicated in the diagram above, members of WG18 will start to collect data. In parallel, ICOMIA will try to get additional data from MIAs, classification societies and notified bodies. If possible data shall be retracable. In parrallel the ICOMIA secretariat will collate all the data and will point out areas where information is missing.
4)Processing - The collated data needs to be reviewed and a presentation may need to be prepared for the WG. This may be done by one individual or by a small group.
5)WG 18 meeting - Meeting of the WG to ajust the standard if needed.
