Data Analysis/Graph Building!
You’ve done your lab! Let’s see what we have learned!
Step 1: Have your data table approved by Ms. Padhi!
Step 2: Go to FJH website Ms. Padhi’s website 6th Science Scroll to Symbaloo
Step 3: Click on “Create a Graph” – 3rd column, bottom row.
Step 4: Select the type of graph that you want. (Most of you will use a bar graph)Find the page that fits your graph type and follow the instructions!
- Bar: Comparing different categories (ex. What color candle burns the fastest?)
- Line: Comparing different categories over time (only use if you noted differences at different times, don’t use if you just have final time) (ex. How does location affect plant growth?)
- Pie Chart: Parts of a whole – comparing percentages(ex. Which color sugar are ants more attracted to?)
Step 4: Design/Build your graph
Step 5:Return the page to Ms. Padhi.
Step 6:Click Print/Save
Step 7: Email this graph to:
Step 8: If you/your parents have an email, email the graph to them as well.
Step 9: Click Download
Step 10:Under file format – click PDF
Step 11: Press download button
Step 12: Save in your science folder
Step 13: Sketch in your science fair folder
BAR GRAPH
1. Click Data
Graph Title: Give your graph a name related to your topic
X Axis Label: Independent Variable (what you changed)
Y Axis Label: Dependent Variable (what you measured)
Data Set:
Items – number of different things changed
Groups – number of trials done – set as 1 if you want to only graph the averages of your data – you can change the color of the bars
Min Value & Max Value don’t need to be entered
2. Go to labels. You don’t need to change anything unless you want to change font type or color.
3. Click Preview. If there is anything you don’t like, go back and fix it.
4. Return this page to Ms. Padhi.
PIE CHART
1. Click data
Graph Title: Give your graph a name related to your topic
Data Set: # of different options
Enter your values (number answers –not percentages)
You can change the colors
2. Click labels
Under type – change to % of total and label
3. Click preview – if there is anything you don’t like, go back and fix it
4. Return this page to Ms. Padhi.
LINE GRAPH
1. Click Data
Graph Title – give your graph a title related to your topic.
X Axis Label: Time measurement – can be seconds, minutes, hours, days, etc.

Data Set:
Items: # of time measurements
Ex. 15 days = 15 items
Groups: independent variable (# of different categories)
Ex. 4 different locations = 4 groups
Point Shape:
Have every point shape be different for each group.
