Overview

Greg offers several years of experience in managing all aspects of the development life cycle. This includes software design, development, database administration, QA testing, and application deployment and maintenance. Demonstrates expertise in an array of cutting-edge technology tools and consistently completes large-scale projects on time and under budget. With excellent communicator who effectively interfaces with interdisciplinary teams and corporate clients, and ensures adherence to high quality standards and client business needs. Has extensive experience in designing and developing of database applications for both client / server and n-tier architectures for, data-driven applications and web base solutions. All these skill aids him in fulfill his ability to “Finding Order in the Chaos”.

Experience Highlights

This section is laid out in the various skill sets I have required throughout my career history. This is to provide a better overview of my experiences without having to search the lengthy job history for the areas the employer would find most interesting. Several minor experiences have been purposely left out do to lack of true mastering or because the system home-grown by the company, or even obsolete.

Corporate Relationships

·  Scheduled regular meets with the different teams to determine the status of the progress, and deduce means to insure they dead lines will be met.

·  Worked closely with management to inform them of the progress of the project.

Customer Relationships

·  Maintained written and verbal connection with the client’s through-out the life cycle of the project.

·  Working closely with the customer, generated schedule to insure the project meets the dead line.

Software Design and Documentation

·  Written several documents to aid the customer and the development team through-out the Application Development Life Cycle (ADLC).

◦  After meeting with the clients, wrote a Conception design and presented for any correction and sign-off.

◦  Create Database design document to outline the schema of the product.

◦  Wrote a Functional design manual to insure the rules of the operation of the applications are met. This was used by the development team to insure proper validation methods are included, and the Test team to make sure the rules is correctly implemented.

◦  The Unit Test documents outlined the types of tests that were required to are created.

◦  Added User Guides to aid the customers and test team understand how the system works and where in the application features can be found.

Application Development

·  With the knowledge of multiple programming languages C#, Visual Basic, Visual FoxPro, ASP.net, Scripting languages like VBScript and JavaScript, plus many other still in use or became obsolete.

·  Designed N-Tier distributive applications that would allow the application to be divided in to separate parts and ran on multiple computers, either local network or over the internet.

·  Even from the beginning of the project, insured that many parts of the application are scalable and extendable.

·  Created the Data Exchange project for the Memphis Police Department and University of Memphis. Used a ETL (Extract / Translate / Load) technique to retrieve incident report data from external source of a verity of database types and collect them into common data-warehouse database.

·  With the use of scanner and OCR, scanned incident reports and populated the local database with the database.

·  Used Visual FoxPro to develop applications. Some of these were a Point-of-Sale for retail tire and brake shops Health Care applications

·  Some assignments included Reverse Engineering existing applications and then reconstructing them into other framework web-base applications, .NET, and others. Sometimes using COM+ object, AJAX and Web Service techniques to insure the highest performance possible.

·  Auto-Update add-on to keep applications up to date from across the internet.

Database construction and maintenance

·  With the aid of SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) integrate ETL (Extract / Translate / Load)

·  Analyses Services (SSAS) OLAP (Cube / Rollup / Pivot)

·  Developed several QBE (Query by Example) search engines against SQL Server.

·  Converted various legacy databases like SQL Server, Oracle, Access, Foxfire, and FoxPro to SQL Server and other forms of output.

·  An add-on to extend local SQL query engine to gather data from several dozen resource other databases and output to one of many type of outputs.

Reporting

·  Reporting Services (SSRS) enhance the reporting outputs

·  Designed and developed many reports (FoxPro, Crystal Reports, SQL Reporting Service, Report Builder 3.0, Access) using various back-end data sources (SQL Server, FoxPro, Access, various other sources.)

Web Development

·  Created several internet and intranet web bases applications.

·  With the use of service base objects, built SOA type applications using methods of Web-Services, AJAX, and West-Wind's WindConnection

·  Client side application and web-services written in ASP.net & C# / VB.net.

·  As lead developer for StarIQ.com, created a news content driven commercial web site with in ASP 3.0 with a SQL Server 2000 backend. In addition developed an e-Store, Boolean search engine, and many COM+ object (C++, VB, and VFP) to enhance the sites features.

Quality Assurance and Automated Test Cases

·  While work for Microsoft on the Visual FoxPro team, was educated as a SDET (Software Design Engineer in Test) for versions 6.0 and 8.0.

·  Designed, developed, and ran automated regression tests for the Adobe CS InDesign / InCopy applications using JavaScript against the common DOM object.

·  Developed Test Suites, Performance Suites, Smoke and Regression test, for most of the companies, ever sense learning the importance of testing in all aspects for of the software life cycle.

·  The automated test suites were developed in C#.Net, VBScript, and FoxPro to Unit Test

Issue Tracking and Version Control

·  Designed, developed, and trained companies in proper Issue Tracking (Bug tracking) methodologies.

·  Using Visual SourceSafe or Vault to track changes in the source code., and even trained personnel in proper usage of these tools.

Deployment and Configuration

·  Constructed application or database installation strategies.

·  Using build and installation tools, created install applications that even clients could operate without on-site assistance.

·  Provide on-site and remote assistance to insure proper configuration of the applications to meet local rules and regulations.

SQL and Reports Consultant

Independent Consultant / Independent: 2/2014-Present

·  Private development and consulting for a verity of clients.

·  Enhanced existing tables and Microsoft T- SQL stored procedure

·  Added or removed columns from reports using SSRS and Report Builder 3.0.

·  Services also included optimization of the Stored Procedures and Views, which sometimes required rewrites. Participated in design phase meetings to insure proper designs were achieved.

Memphis Police Department and University of Memphis

Application, Database, Web Application developer / Contract: 3/09-7/2013

·  I have designed and developed for the Memphis Police Department (RTCC) and the University of Memphis’s and Criminology Department a N-tier application to gather incident reports from various sources to a single key/value data warehouse for reporting crime across districts and city borders. Designed and developed web applications to manage City Grants and Cold Case Incidents in ASP. Converted existing external databases (MS SQL, Oracle, MySQL, etc) to SQL Server and optimized the data retrieval. Developed an application to scanning images, storage them, and translate them using OCR.

·  Generated many report representing social/census data in table (collapsible), charts, and mapped (GIS) representations, Report Builder 3.0, and SSRS.

·  Addition responsibilities include design, documentation, testing, deployment, maintenance and training of developed applications.

Navex, Inc.

Lead Developer
/ Employed: 2/07-5/08

·  Navex is a small Point-of-Sales company that required enhancement to their projects.

·  My duties consisted of assisting in maintaining the existing application and aiding in migrating databases to SQL server 2008.

·  Developing an auto-update module to accelerate the deployment of releases to the 1000+ installations.

·  Some ASP web work came about from time to time.

Adobe Systems Inc.

SDET (Software Design Engineer in Test)
/ Contract: 7/06-2/07

·  Was hired as a SDET to the CS InDesign / InCopy QA team.

·  Primary task was to develop and maintain automated test cases for the application main core DOM object.

·  The over 10,000 test cases were developed in JavaScript. In the beginning, the tests were required to execute manually after each new build. Over the course of the assignment, I devised a means to automate all the test cases by creating a JavaScript Text Suite for both Windows platforms and Mac X.

Qualifacts

SDET (Software Design Engineer in Test)
/ Contract/Employed: 1/05-3/06

·  Qualifacts has developed a Metadata driven ASP.Net application for State/County health departments.

·  I performed manual testing to insure the ASP.Net application met the clients’ requirements.

·  Worked closely with the QA manager to evaluate third-party automated test case utilities.

·  I also worked with the development team and assist them in designing and developing Unit Test procedures for their core of the system.

Volt Technical

Application maintenance and some DBA
/ Contract: 8/04-1/05

·  During this period, I worked as contractor under Volt to several companies.

·  While assigned to Frank Russell Investment, I developed a ASP 3.0 / SQL server application to allow their clients to generate a PDF document agreement contract.

·  At other companies, I enhanced Fire Department’s Access application,

·  Optimized SQL server Stored Procedures, and other various assistance where it was needed.

Boeing Corp.

Application conversion, web development, and database design / Contract: 5/03-07/04

·  While at the Boeing Corporation, I performed various duties which included Access application enhancements,

·  the design and development of a standard ASP framework,

·  Converting legacy application / databases to the new web framework and SQL server.

·  Also helped other developers in maintaining an existing FoxPro application.

·  Wrote several specification documents for both the reverse engineering of the legacy application and database design.

Microsoft, Inc.

SDET (Software Design Engineer in Test)
/ Contract: 12/01-12/02

·  Worked as a SDET on Visual FoxPro team (version 8.0).

·  Designed and documented while developing several hundred automated test cases to validate the new features be introduced to the upcoming version.

·  Design and developed a Performance test utility to compare the current version to previous version VFP and output the result to a intranet web site.

·  Then evaluated the results when the issue returns after being addressed by the development team.

Wizard International, Inc.

Data conversion and C++ development
/ Contract: 3/01-12/01

·  Wizard International manufactures a CAD/CAM system to cut complex picture mats. Also they provided a massive set art prints for resale from a database they had acquired.

·  I was hired to convert a Cobalt database to first Access and then to SQL Server.

·  Designed and developed an application (Borland C++ Builder) to maintain the converted data of TIFF images.

·  Trained staff in using new utility.

·  Established a test plan and worked close with the Project Manager in implementing the test plans.

·  Developed an ASP web-based version of the utility so their customers could view and purchase the various prints available.

StarIQ.com, Inc

Web site / SQL Server development
/ Employed: 1/00-12/01

·  StarIQ.com is a public internet site (http://www.StarIQ.com) catering to astrologer with current news events.

·  I assisted management in designing and developing a ASP web site.

·  Utilizing SQL Server 2000 as the backend.

·  The site is a content driven news site with a Boolean search capability.

·  E-Store

·  Site membership.

·  Dynamically generate astrological star charts based on an individual’s personal place and time of birth.

Parity Corporation

Application Development Life Cycle training
/ Employed: 7/99-1/2000

·  Parity had a Visual FoxPro (6.0) application designed for the food industry.

·  I was hired to train the development team in proper software design and development life cycle.

·  The lessons included issue tracking (West-wind application I developed), using Visual SourceSafe, Unit testing

·  Constructed a build application and defined deployment procedures.

·  Setup an IIS web service and established the base for a internet web site for application deployment.

SpaceLabs Medical, Inc.

Team Lead
/ Employed: 10/97-7/99

·  I was hired to continue development of the Emergency Department Patient Tracking System (Visual FoxPro 6.0) that they had acquired from Orca Medical.

·  The system would follow the activities about a patient from the moment they came in the moment they would be released, include generating all discharge documents.

·  The application communicated via HL7 protocol with other applications to maintain current data on all systems.

·  As the Lead Developer, my duties included design and development of the multiple module application,

·  manage other team members,

·  establish and enforce regression test procedures,

·  build and deployment (including onsite installations), and many other duties required in proper development life cycle.

·  Worked very close with many others across the company to insure the application met the requirements and deadlines.

·  I intentionally joined the Visual FoxPro team (version 6.0) to learn proper software test techniques to enhance my development skills.

·  The duties involved designing, developing, and executing test cases against new builds and features.
