Celebraciones de la Navidad
Christmas in a Shoe Box
Quarter 2 project
Objectives: To research and describe different Christmas celebrations from the Spanish-speaking world.
On my travels to Ecuador, I visited many religious monuments. Inside one of these monuments, I saw different representations of Christmas celebrations in the Spanish-speaking world. Although interesting, I thought to myself, “My students could do a way better job creating these representations!! In fact, they could do a better job with just a shoe box!!” So that’s exactly what you’re going to do. I will assign you a country and a title of a celebration. The project is split into 3 parts:
Parte 1: Research
Please research the following facts about your celebration:
1. Fecha/ Date: Date(s) the celebration occurs
2. Origen/ Origin: Country and City the celebration comes from
3. Quién celebra/ Who celebrates it: What group of people celebrate it?
4. Por qué/ Why: Why is it celebrated?
5. Cómo/ How: How is it celebrated?
Your answers will be summarized in bullet points, in one or two sentences, and in Spanish. Please type your summary and include a bibliography.
Parte 2: Christmas in a Shoe box
Once you have turned in your rough draft for proofreading, you may start on your shoe box.! You will create a diorama/ model/ representation of your Christmas celebration. Please be as creative as possible! You can use clay, wood, paper, printed items from the internet, action figures, plants, lights anything creative to represent your celebration. Remember all of these celebrations are about the birth of Jesus so maintain a level of respect when creating your shoe box representation. The more creative you are the better!
Parte 3: Presentation
You will present your Christmas in a Shoe Box to the class. You will need to present the summary of your celebration as well as explain your shoe box in Spanish to the class. You may have a notecard to help you present.
