SCHOLARSHIPTO CONDUCT RESEARCH
AT THE INDIANA UNIVERSITY, BLOOMINGTON, UNITED STATES
The Julius Rezler Foundation invites applicants for a scholarship to conduct research at the Department of Central Eurasion Studies (CEUS), Indiana University (IU), Bloomington ( IU offers an excellent research opportunity to young scholars who seek stimulating environment to work towards their Ph.D. degrees.
In the framework of the long standing cooperation between the Hungarian Rezler Foundation and the Indiana University CEUS intends to accept one visiting Rezler Scholar. This turn, the scholarship, which runs for four months, is to be awardedfor the springsemester of the academic year 2015/2016.
Hungarian citizens,maximum of 35 by the time of application deadline, having a completed Master degree, already taking part in or having recently gained admission to Ph.D. studies in Hungary are eligible to apply. Applicants must have achieved academic standing sufficiently advanced to assure the possible best use of the research scholarship.
At the Indiana University (IU) the visiting Rezler Scholar will work on his/her specific research project. Its subject should be related to the interdisciplinary studies of labour. Preference will be given to investigating
- the current developments in the world of work;
- industrial relations and employment relationship;
- conflicts, labour disputes and their resolutions;
- the changing nature of production, with a special view to the shift from blue to white collar work;
- innovations in work organization and working conditions;
- employment and unemployment trends and their social impact.
The total amount of the grant (stipendium) is 5.000 USD.Travelcosts and accommodation need to be covered by the Rezler Scholar.Similarly, health insurance should be arranged by the Rezler Scholar. Its fee is approximately 440 USD.Visa expenses and SEVIS fee will be reimbursed by the Foundation.
Applicants need to submit the following documents to the Foundation via mail(Julius RezlerFoundation–1111 Budapest, Egry JózsefStreet1, Room: 709, Tel.: 06-30-479-4087) andalso in electronic form via e-mail: ():
- a short CV (preferably in Europass format), including information about the applicant's financial background and social situation should the applicant consider this information appropriate
- a research plan (max. 3 pages), including
- the main elements of the planned research project (hypothesis, methods, sources, data, etc, as appropriate), a timetable and expected outcomes,
- prior research achievements, especially in the project field; list of publications,
- a statement, explaining why the IU is an appropriate setting for the planned work.
- Certificate from the School of Ph.D studiescontaining that the applicant is a Ph.D. student, and recommendation of the School
- a copy of the language certificate
Application deadline:
- 24:00 (CET) 5October 2015 for the electronic version
- 5October 2015 – as a date of posting – for the printed version sent via mail
The receipt of applications will be acknowledged by the Foundation via e-mail. Applications received after the closing date will not be considered.
All applications will be reviewed by the Kuratorium. The most promising applicants will be invited for a personal interview conducted by the Kuratorium. During the interview the prospective candidates can present their academic background, proposed research project and personal motivation as well as can prove their language skills in English. Supporting documents of the application (diploma, language certificate, proof of admission to Ph.D. studies, etc) should be presented at that occasion.
The interviews will be held during the week starting19October 2015. Invited applicants who fail to attend the personal interview will not be considered for the further selection process.
The scholarship will be given to a Rezler Scholar on a competitive basis, considering the following criteria:
- academic merit, prior research experience and achievements (publications especially)
- scientific quality, originality and relevance of the proposed research project
- methodological approach and, if appropriate, the American dimension of the research proposal
- use of IU’s scientific strengths and resources in the planned research
- the value/importance of the scholarship in developing and furthering the applicant’s academic capabilities and career
- commitment and ability to successfully complete the research project at IU
- willingness to networking within the American academic and research community, primarily within the IU
- willingness to participate actively in activities of the local Hungarian civil organisations
- English language proficiency
- overall accuracy and quality of the application
In case of two equally qualified candidates, preference will be given,according to the will of the Founding Father, to candidates
- with financial need,
- who have not had prior scholarship in the US.
Within two weeks after the interviews, the Kuratorium will inform the applicants about thedecision. Particular justifications will not be provided.
While the Kuratorium recruit and select the candidate for the research scholarship, CEUS IU reserve the right not to accept, without any justification, the proposed candidate.
Within a month after the return from the United States, the Rezler Scholar is requested to submit a technical report (in Hungarian) about the research carried out in the US. This report will be published on the homepage of the Foundation. The Rezler Scholar will be also invited to inform the Kuratorium orally about his/her experience at the UNM.
The Rezler Scholar is also expected to publish his/her research findings in an acknowledged academic periodical, within a reasonable time, referring also to the support of the Rezler Foundation.
