Letter to Myself
Last week you wrote all about someone else and discovered aspects of their identity. This week, you will take a look at yourself and define aspects of your own identity.
Compose a two-page (minimum) letter in paragraph format to yourself in which you describe the eighth grader you are at this very moment in time. Talk about how you see yourself through your own eyes and the things that matter most to you right now.
Here are some suggestions of what you can write about, but you are not limited to these ideas. Be creative! It’s all about YOU!
****Before you answer the following questions, please note – YOU are your ONLY audience for this letter! No one else will be reading it!****
1. Who are your best friends right now? Who are your enemies (if you have any?)
2. What’s happening (good or bad) in your family right now?
3. Are you interested in any particular boys or girls? Who? How bad is your crush?
4. What is/are your most favorite AND least favorite…
a. movies
b. TV shows/series
c. fashion trends
d. music
e. color
f. food
g. sports teams (if you have any)
h. animals
5. What do you like to wear to school every day?
6. What puts you in a good mood? What puts you in a really bad mood?
7. What do you do in your free time?
8. What current events or political/social issue(s) do you feel passionately about?
9. What do you want to be when you grow up? (Or what interests you if you’re not sure?)
10. What motivates you in life to achieve your goals (or to just get up in the morning!)?
More on the back!
Now, make some predictions for your eighth grade year:
1. What will your favorite class be this year? Who will your favorite teacher be?
2. What kinds of grades will you make?
3. How well do you think your band/orchestra/theater/athletic team/club group will do this year?
4. What do you hope will be your biggest accomplishment?
5. What new things do you think you will try this year?
6. Add any other predictions you want to make about this year!
REMEMBER: No one else is going to read this letter! Your ELA teacher will check that you have written or typed the minimum amount (two pages in paragraph format), but she will NOT read it.
Once you have finished your letter and your grade has been recorded, place your letter in an envelope, SEAL IT TIGHT, and give it back to your teacher. If you want to place anything else (appropriate) in your envelope with your letter, you are welcome to do so.
You will get your letter back sometime during the last week of school.
