Preparatory Fundraising Planning Questions for County 4-H Leadership Teams:
A strong reliable base is needed to launch a strong sustainable fundraising effort. Your organization must first possess or create the solid policies, people, programs and plans needed for successful fundraising. The following is a checklist of the preparation needed to do successful fundraising for ongoing operations.
Key Readiness Indicators to partner with the CA 4-H Foundation to begin developing sustainable funding
§ County Director, 4-H staff and key volunteer leadership exhibit a willingness to work together to fundraise for programmatic growth (and collaborate on the preliminary planning necessary to effective fundraising)
§ An adult-led volunteer fundraising group i.e. a designated fundraising committee or support group willing to take a leadership role in fundraising, exists
§ Key staff member has some responsibility for fundraising written into their job description
§ A growth mindset on the part of County Director, 4-H staff and volunteers and willingness to explore new pathways to programmatic success
The following list will help identify gaps that we can work together to fill so that a fundraising plan can be developed. When you are able to check all the boxes, you are well on the way to creating an achievable and top-notch fundraising plan.
¨ Our organization has and actively uses a current, detailed, customized, workable strategic plan on which to base our fundraising plan
¨ Our organization produces detailed, accurate budgets and financial records that enable leadership to monitor and understand our organization’s current and future financial needs
¨ Our organization’s staff, volunteers and leadership have a clear sense of our organization’s mission, vision and constituency (supporters and service users)
¨ Our organizations staff and volunteers cooperate and communicate effectively to advance the mission of our organization
¨ Our organization understands the needs and expectations of our community and customizes programs and projects to meet those needs
¨ Our organization is aware of other youth-serving organizations and strives to cooperate and collaborate with them without duplicating services
¨ Our organization has a reliable, integrated comprehensive record-keeping system to manage our programs
