Infectious Disease and Quarantine Leave Procedure (MPF1128)

GOVERNING POLICY

This procedure is made under the Leave Policy.

SCOPE

This procedure applies to all fixed term, continuing and casual staff.

PROCEDURE

1. Infectious disease leave

1.1 A staff member who is a child care worker and who contracts, or believes they have contracted an infectious disease will notify their supervisor as soon as they have symptoms of the disease or the diagnosis is confirmed.

1.2 A staff member who is a child care worker and who contracts an infectious disease through contact in their area of employment may apply for the amount of leave set out in Table 1 by:

  • in the case of a short period of absence, submitting a medical certificate and an application for leave immediately following the return to duty electronically through Themis (HR) self service or
  • in the case of an extended period of absence, the supervisor forwarding to the staff member at home anApplication for Non-Standard Leave form for immediate completion by the staff member and return to the level 2 delegate with a medical certificate for approval.

2. Quarantine leave

2.1 A staff member who wishes to apply for paid special leave for a quarantine period, that is, a period of compulsory isolation, after coming into contact with a person suffering from an infectious disease will provide a medical certificate or other satisfactory medical evidence to their supervisor.

RESPONSIBLE OFFICER

The Executive Director, Human Resources is responsible for the development, compliance monitoring and review of this procedure and any related guidelines.

IMPLEMENTATION OFFICER

The Director Specialist Services is responsible for the promulgation and implementation of this procedure in accordance with the scope outlined above. Enquiries about interpretation of this procedure should be directed to the Implementation Officer.

REVIEW

This procedure is to be reviewed by 30 June 2015.
