Videotaped Lesson
To demonstrate your teaching skill, you will video-tape a lesson you teach and KTIP your lesson. Capturing teaching on videotape effectively requires thoughtful preparation and planning. Thevideo must be a DVD recording (If you do not have a recorder that writes directly to a DVD, the library can burn a DVD from a digital tape---there is a minimal fee). You will develop a lesson plan for the video lesson and complete Task C, Lesson Analysis andReflection (impact and refinement) after the lesson is taught. You must also have pre and post observation questions, revised lesson plan, and assessed student work samples.
TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL VIDEOING
  1. Contact the division secretary or the LWC library to reserve the needed equipment and to learn about the operation of the equipment.
  2. Plan to videotape yourself or find a volunteer to help videotape the class. This could be your mentoring teacher, a parent volunteer, or a friend. You are responsible for the friend’s professional dress and behavior during his/her time in the school. He/she may need some time to become familiar with the camera equipment. (Note: Warn the camera operator that his/her voice may be heard on video.)
  3. Use a tripod.
  4. Advise your camera operator to record student involvement as well as your movements, while being careful not to make too many sudden moves.
  5. Keep the lens cap on the camera when the camera is not being used. This prevents excess light from entering the lens. Remember to remove the lens when you start videoing.
  6. Keep the camera and DVD away from magnetic fields.
  7. Cameras should not be used in extreme heat or cold. Let the camera adjust to room temperature for about thirty
minutes.
  1. Consider the composition of the picture. Clutter can be a problem in classrooms; remove items that may detract from the message/image. Consider the background.
  2. Make sure your classroom is well-lit.
  3. Speak loudly for the camera’s sound system.
