Neighborhood Partnership Program
The Neighborhood Partnership Program (NPP) is looking for highly motivated people to serve as Mentor Coordinators for the GEAR UP 4 LA programs located atBelmont High Schools.
OVERVIEW:
GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) 4 LA is a federally funded program that works with youth in the Los AngelesUnifiedSchool District, Local District 4. Working specifically with the Belmont and Kennedy Zones of Choice, we aim tosignificantly increase student success in high school and persistence in college. The program also seeks toincrease college and career awareness for students and parents.It provides knowledge of the admission process and the college experience. As a partner toGEAR UP 4 LA, OccidentalCollegeprovides support for the Mentoring program. The goal is to improve college readiness and to give students positive role models.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the GEAR UP 4 LA Site Coordinator, the Mentor Coordinator helps coordinate the day-to-day operations of the GEAR UP 4 LAmentor program at the cohort schools. Responsibilities at assigned school include:
- Implement and coordinate middle school and high school outreach program.
- Develop and administer assessments for skills inventory/learning strengths.
- Develop mentor/mentee lessons for the middle and high school students.
- Maintain regular communication with cohort teachers for mentoring related events, including scheduling.
- Assist GEAR UP office when needed by providing support for students and/or parents,including non-mentors with GEAR UP related needs.
- Assist NPP’s Director with the Mentor Camp schedules and procedures.
- Develop and Train mentors at program sponsored Mentor Camps in summer and winter.
- Maintain records of participation and the results of that participation.
- Supervise mentors during mentor events.
- Help collect data on students served by the grant.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate for this position must have a Bachelor's Degree. The candidate must demonstrate competency in the following areas: Public speaking and group facilitation skills; strong organizational skills, especially data management and monitoring heavy email activity; event planning and promotion; ability to encourage and empower others to lead and contribute to the program and working knowledge of excel necessary. Candidate must have a driver’s license and car. Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
Schedule: Monday-Friday 35-40 hours a week, 10-11 months a year.
Starting Rate: $17.50-$20.00/hour.
