“Yukon Dan’s Rules for Gold Panning Competition”

These rules will be covered by ALL Panners.

Mini Miners & Children’s competition:

Top twenty children with the fastest times from Saturday’s competitions will move on to finals held on Sunday.

All panners will use a black riffled pan provided for the competition by the organizers.

All panners WILL NOT know the amount of gold put in each bucket of pay dirt he or she pans, this will be a surprise to ALL (except the judges of course).

All panners will pan out the dirt as quickly as possible to try & recover all gold placed in dirt. THREE MINUTE PENALTY added for each flake lost.

ALL children panners may have the help of a professional gold panner as a coach ONLY! The coach MAY NOT TOUCH THE PAN OR THE GOLD, the panner must show the gold to the judges in the pan, if the child has left dirt in the pan the judges won’t mind, all they want to see is the gold, no sand can be covering the gold, the judges will not look for the gold if hidden in the sand left in the pan. If a flake is on top of another one yes the judges will remove it to see if another flake rest underneath it. This is a timed event with a stop watch for each competitor.

No dry dumping.

The panner MUST COUNT the gold with the JUDGES. If needed Head Judges decision is final. Please DO NOT run to the judges table when finished ONLY the panner will walk carefully to the line up of panners waiting to see a judge for counting.

PLEASE NOTE, FRASER RIVER PAYDIRT WILL BE USED WHICH POSSIBLY CONTAINS SMALL FLAKES AND FLOUR GOLD, THIS GOLD WILL NOT BE COUNTED IN THE COMPETITIONS. Samples of FraserRiver gold and the competition gold will be on display. The organizers will be adding LARGE GOLD FLAKES from the YUKON to the dirt for all competitions. This gold is the only gold counted by the judges. Head judge’s decision is final.
