Learning Style:
Visual, auditory
Time:60 minutes / Method:
1. This could be the first lesson of the year. Greet students as they come into the classroom and ask them what their name is, what country they are from and so on. This will set the foundation for the lesson.
2. Ask students what kind of questions they ask people when they first meet them. Write ideas on the board.
3. Give the students the “Interview a Classmate” hand-out and read the directions together. Clarify any words.
4. Guide the students as they think of questions for each subtitle. The teacher could either use the “Interview a Classmate” Overhead Transparency or write the questions on the board.
5. Read the questions together in choral repetition.
6. Ask the students to use their interview questions to find out more about a classmate. Students should ask their partner how to spell certain words if they are uncertain. Write “How do you spell ?”on the board as guidance. The students should only record one-word answers.
7. The students should use their answers to write sentences on the “Introduce a Classmate handout.” The teacher could guide the students by using either the “Introduce a Classmate” Overhead Transparency or by writing sentences on the board.
Follow Up:
Students could practice reading their questions and answers at home and demonstrate the following day for the teacher. Students could complete “Interview a Classmate – Part 2.”
Debrief/Transfer:
Ask the students to think of a situation where they could practice using these questions. For example, work, child’s school, church, waiting for a bus, etc.
