FOR QUALIFICATIONS FOR ADMISSION TO THE EXAMINTION:

REFER TO 201 KAR 19:035 OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE REGULATIONS.

I. APPLICANTS HOLDING AN ACCREDITED DEGREE IN ARCHITECTURE

A. Applicants with an accredited degree in architecture are required to have satisfied the Intern Development Program, (IDP) training requirements as verified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, (NCARB) evaluation.

B. Applicants must apply to NCARB to enroll in the Intern Development Program, (IDP) and to compile a Council Record to document qualifications. The Record generally will include:

1. Transcript of Higher Education.

2. Employment Verifications.

3. Architect References.

4. IDP Evaluation.

NCARB will supply you with the required forms needed for this process, and will prepare a Record which will complete the major part of your needs for Council certification and licensing in other states after passing the examinations and being registered in Kentucky.

You are responsible to have your completed and bound NCARB Record transmitted to this office as soon as possible after submitting the application. NCARB Record must be in this office to complete your application file before admission to the examination process.

II. APPLICANTS NOT HOLDING AN ACCREDITED DEGREE IN

ARCHITECTURE

A. Applicants who do not hold an accredited degree in architecture education should contact the Board office for information on the required education equivalencies. Such equivalencies, totaling five (5) education credits, must have been completed as of June 1, 1992 to qualify for admission to the examination.

B. Additionally, non degree holder applicants must enroll in and satisfy the Intern Development Program (IDP) as verified by NCARB evaluation, and compile and have transmitted an, “unbound” NCARB record, the same as defined I, B. Neither IDP value units nor training experience credits may be accumulated before completion of education credits.

NOTE:

NCARB CERTIFICATION IS NOT AVAILABLE TO APPLICANTS WHO

DO NOT HOLD AN ACCREDITED DEGREE.

III. SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION

A. If you qualify for admission to the Architect Registration Examination, (A.R.E.), complete the Kentucky Application, enclose a certified check in the amount of $100.00, may payable to the KENTUCKY STATE TREASURER, and return to this office. Upon completion of the evaluation of the application and record, you will be notified of acceptance and given the information to proceed with making appointment to sit for the computer administered A.R.E.

B. Application fees cannot be returned. However, if you are not accepted, your application fee remains valid for three years, with no additional cost except for the actual cost you pay to take the selected divisions of the A.R.E.
