About the Honorable Speakers

Prof. Kwok LEUNG Head, Department of Management, City University of Hong Kong

Professor Kwok LEUNG, Head of Management Department at City University of Hong Kong, is widely published in the areas of management, organizational psychology, and culture. His work is widely cited, and he has one book and four research articles that have been cited over 100 times each. He is the Editor of Asian Journal of Social Psychology and a departmental editor of Journal of International Business studies, and a past associate editor of Asia Pacific Journal of Management and Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology. He is on the editorial board of several journals, including Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Research Methods, and Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology. He is the President-Elect of the Research Methods Division of the Academy of Management and a past president of Asian Association of Social Psychology. He is currently serving on the RGC panel and the Civil Service Training and Development Advisory Board.

Dr. The Honorable Rita FAN HSU Lai-Tai, GBS, JP

The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region

Dr. Honorable Rita FAN, GBS, JP, is currently the President of the Third Legislative Council. She graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science (in Chemistry and Physics) and a Master’s Degree in Social Science (in Psychology). She was conferred an Honorary Doctor Degree from the China University of Political Science and Law. In 2005, she was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Social Science of the City University of Hong Kong. She is now a Deputy to the Tenth National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China and the Supervising Adviser of the Hong Kong Federation of Women. For her past community service, Mrs Fan was Chairman of the Board of Education and the Education Commission from 1986 to 1989 and from 1990 to 1992 respectively. She was also Member of the Legislative Council and Member of the Executive Council between 1983 to 1992. She served as a Member of the Preparatory Committee for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. She was President of the Provisional Legislative Council, President of the First and Second Legislative Council. She was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1986 and was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star in 1998.

Mr. CHAN Kam-Cheung Paul, graduated from the University of Hong Kong and obtained the degrees of Bachelor of Science (Hons.) and Master of Social Work in 1978 and 1980 respectively. He is a registered social worker and the Deputy Executive Director of The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups. Mr. Chan has involved himself in youth work since 1983. He is also member of a number of advisory bodies such as the Football Betting and Lotteries Commission, Administrative Appeals Board, Education Scholarships Fund Committee, Committee on Accreditation and Registration of the Social Workers Registration Board and the Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service.

Mr. Chan had served in other public bodies including the Commission on Youth, Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education, Action Committee Against Narcotics, Amusement Game Centres Appeal Board, Hong Kong Council on Smoking and Health, Sir David Trench Fund Committee, Citizens Advisory Committee on Community Relations of the ICAC, Committee on Services for Youth at Risk, Working Group on Digital Entertainment, Public Relations Committee of the Community Chest of Hong Kong and the Social Workers Registration Board.

Ms. Joyce LEE Joyce Artiste Limited

Joyce Loke Cia LEE was born in Edmonton (Canada) and spent her early years in Toronto where she studied music at the Royal Conservatory of Music (ARCT) and completed Grade 10 piano At the age of 18, she was discovered by a concert promoter, who then introduced her to the music business in Hong Kong. She now still resides in Hong Kong to further pursue her singing and music production career.

Within the last 10 years, Joyce has established herself as one or Hong Kong s first pop singe- songwriters, in addition to being one or the most original artists of her time. In 1994,her career took off with her 3rd album going double platinum. Her hit single “One day I will touch your heart” (Jung Yao yit tin gum dong lay) which she composed, spiraled to the top off the charts tending her TVB’s “Singer-songwriter of the Year” and “Best Song of the Year (TVB is one of the most popular Hong Kong’ s TV station). Other awards included “Metro Broadcast Radio Station’s a Best Leap Forward station). Other awards included Metro Broadcast Radio Station’s Best Leap Forward Award and Commercial Hong Kong Radio s Most Air Played Song of the Year.

In 1996, Joyce followed up with another much remembered song “Kindred Spirit (Jun Ching) which touched the hearts of all Chinese audience. The song went on to become the theme song to TVB a longest running TV drama In Hong Kong‘s history.

In October of 1998, Joyce performed with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra for 2 special concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum for an audience of ten thousand people each evening. The live concert was later recorded and released in 1998 by Universal Music. In 2003, Joyce also performed in Hong Kong and Macau with the highly acclaimed twelve piece salsa band from L.A. fronted by Johnny Polanco. Together, they performed 2 shows in H.K.

Joyce has also gone on to entertaining her fans with concerts and performances in various different venues/countries such as the Taj Mahal ,Trump Plaza (Atlantic City) MGM (Las Vegas), Massey Hall (Toronto), and many other major cities in China and Asia. Furthermore she has gone on to further developing her unique brand of strong melodic jazz in sophisticated arrangements flavored by her eccentric voice. In 2001, she was invited to perform for the exclusive clienteles of CHANEL in Macau, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand and Hong Kong.

Joyce also has a great interest in musical theatre. She received rave reviews for her performance as Mary Magdalene, the lead rote in the theater production of Jesus Christ Superstar (1992) Then in 2002, she accepted the role as “Tuptim” the musical The King and I.

Recently, she expanded into writing a complete film score for a Canadian independent film “Lily’s Crickets,” which was featured at the Vancouver Asian Film Festival, 2003 Yorkton Short Film Festival, Northwest Asian American Film Festival, and the North Carolina Asian American Film Festival.

Mr. David LAM Managing Director, Experiential Development

David LAM, the chief Instructor of Hong Kong Outward Bound School from 1970-1996, is a pioneer of Adventure Training in Hong Kong and has contributed 30 years of his life to raise awareness of the benefits of using experiential programs for personal and management development.

20 years ago, he pioneered Experiential Training in large corporations (Hongkong Bank, Senior Civil Servants, KCRC, China Light & Power, Telecom, Swire Group, as well as misbehaving & physically disables persons) as a result of which most large corporations now use experiential training as part of their personal, teamwork, and management development curriculum.

Since the 70’s, David has been making great effort in promoting sports and sports management in Hong Kong. He has been the chairman of Hong Kong Mountaineering Union (HKMU), a member of qualification panel. At present he is the chairman of Hong Kong Sport Climbing Association and the President of Rope Course Union of Hong Kong. In 1996 David is invited to be the Development Consultant of the Chinese Mountaineering Association (CMA). Meanwhile, he is a member of British Professional Business and Technical Management, a life member of Hong Kong Recreation Management Association and the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award Holder Association.

In 1996, David founded Experiential Development (O/B Adventure and Experiential Development Limited). Now he is the director and a partner of the company. And he is the Managing Director of the Excel Good Consultants Limited.

Mr. Patrick SIN Chief Consulting Officer, Best Sino Consultants Limited

Mr. Patrick SIN is currently the Managing Partner and Chief Consulting Officer of Best Sino Consultants Limited. He is primarily responsible for management consultancy and business training. Best Sino is a Hong Kong based strategic, management and information technology-related consulting company. Its expertise ranges from Turnaround Management to Change Management, Strategic Planning, IT Strategies/Services, Operations Management, Lean Enterprise/Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management, Customer Relationship Management, e-Commerce, Corporate Design, and Business Operations in China.

Education and Professional Credentials

Patrick obtained his Bachelor of Commerce in Canada and his Master of Commerce in Australia. He is a Fellow Chartered Certified Accountant of The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants [FCCA], a Certified Practising Accountant of Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants [CPA (Australia)], and a Certified Public Accountant of Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants [CPA (HK)].

Career

Starting his career in financial management, Patrick gradually progressed into general management and recently has entered into the consulting field. Prior to joining Best Sino, he had held a number of senior management positions in several multi-national companies, such as the CEO of Saitek EMS (a Swiss-owned transnational company with two electronic factories in China), General Manager of Hasbro Hong Kong Limited (a subsidiary of the second largest U.S. toy company), Finance Director of Oracle System (H.K.) Limited (a world-class IT company), etc.

Knowledge and Expertise

With more than 25 years’ commercial and manufacturing experience in different industries, Patrick is a seasoned corporate executive with thorough knowledge in varied business strategies and management. He is also an expert in the China business operations. Not only is it because he had stationed in China to manage more than 3,500 employee of the two factories of Saitek during his tenure, but also had helped Hasbro restructure its distribution operation, Oracle set up representative office and wholly-owned foreign enterprise, and Colgate-Palmolive establish its manufacturing plant for a joint venture project in China.

Special interest

Patrick enjoyed passing on his knowledge to young people. In addition to various business trainings, he is currently a part-time local instructor of the University of Canberra and the Royal Brisbane International College teaching Management Accounting, Business Management and Organizational Behavior.
