Why did you choose to study at Strathclyde?
I chose Strathclyde because it gave me an opportunity to study within a University and Architecture Department renowned for its technology based curriculum, as well as studying in one of Scotland's most diverse cities.
What do you like about the course?
As previously mentioned, I like the technology based curriculum, close connection with the Engineering Department as well as the mix of full time academic staff and high quality part time practitioners.
Where did you work for your year out?
I worked for Terry Farrell & Partners
Discuss what tasks and projects you worked on?
I worked on several different projects whilst on my year out, this included working on the Chelsea Barracks, Bishopsgate Goods Yard and Nine Elms in London. I was able to draft masterplans that would incorporate a substantial number of new homes, spaces for large offices and small businesses, shops and leisure facilities as well as public open spaces, green spaces and play-spaces. I was able to assist in putting together detailed proposals and really got to work on a large variety of different projects where I was able to put the skills I had learned at Strathclyde into practice.
Do you think the knowledge and skills you learned at Strathclyde set you up well for your time working in industry?
I believe that the skills learned from within the curriculum combined with hard work and self learning set me up well to succeed within the industry.
Have you done any other work placements or internships during your time at university?
I worked for SMC Jenkins & Marr (currently Archial) during summer of 2008. My work there included preparation of production information drawings for the new Langside College in Glasgow.
What advice would you give to potential students thinking about studying Engineering at Strathclyde?
Take advantage of many opportunities offered within the University, such as: exchanges, field trips and events, as these will enhance your learning experience and add an extra dimension to your degree.
What are your plans for the future?
To expand upon the knowledge I have obtained within my Undergraduate Studies which incorporated an International Exchange in Singapore. I plan to achieve this by entering Postgraduate Studies at Strathclyde with a one semester exchange at Chalmers University of Technology in Göteborg in order to enhance my final year thesis proposal.
