Safety/Risk Management Committee Minutes

October 27, 2014

1.  The meeting was called to order by Tom Clapper at 4:00 pm. In attendance were:

2.  Committee welcome – Chairman Tom Clapper welcomed everyone to the meeting and had everyone introduce themselves.

3.  Review of Minutes - The committee reviewed and approved previous minutes from the July 2014 meeting.

4.  Review of the Safety/Risk Management Board Report –

a.  2015 Safety Congress will be April 6-8, at the Westin in San Diego.

b.  The 2014 Arthur Everham Safety Award Questionnaires would be sent to all DCA corresponding contacts with a due date of January 5, 2015.

5.  Review and Revision of the Safety Person of the Year Award Scoring Process– Tom Clapper did a brief summary of the current scoring process for the DCA Safety Person of the Year.

a.  The nomination form is a page essay on why the person is deserving of the award. The current scoring breakdown is:

i.  What was done? (up to 33 points)

ii. How was it implemented? (up to 33 points)

iii.  What was the impact? (up to 34 points)

b.  After a discussion, it was recommended that the recommendation form be revised with the scoring points to be included in the essay description from Ben Nelson’s suggestions. The first paragraph of the recommendation form would use suggestions from Kevin Parker’s email. It was also recommended that the award continue to be for a person and not a crew.

c.  The revised form will be reviewed by:

i.  Todd Wright of Snelson Companies

ii. Stu Buhrendorf, The Hallen Construction Co.

iii.  Kevin Parker, Mears Group

iv.  Mike Hickey, The Hallen Construction Co.

v. Safety/Risk Management Chairman Tom Clapper and Vice Chairman Mike Christy

vi.  Bill Solomon, Vacuworx Global

d.  The revised copy will also be sent to everyone in attendance at the meeting.

6.  Adjournment - The meeting was adjourned at 4:35 pm. The next meeting will be held in conjunction with the DCA 54th Annual Convention, February 7-12, 2015, at The Roosevelt in New Orleans.
