WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR

Position Summary

Performs semi-skilled and skilled work in the operation and maintenance of the Water/Wastewater Production and Treatment Division of the Public Works Department. Work involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of the Division and requires knowledge of safe operating practices and procedures. Additionally, this position requires the ability to meet emergency conditions and operate computer equipment. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of the Water/Wastewater Production and Treatment Division.

Qualifications

·  High school diploma or equivalent.

·  Minimum six months experience in the handling of mechanical equipment and tools.

·  Minimum one year experience in the operation or maintenance of a Water/Wastewater facility preferred.

·  Current Wastewater Class 4 Operator’s License or Water Distribution Class C License preferred.

·  Valid driver’s license. Class A-CDL with tanker endorsement, required within 6 months of hire.

·  Basic computer proficiency, including working knowledge of spreadsheets.

·  Ability to operate a laptop computer, as provided by the City, while on-call.

·  Ability to interpret charts, gauges, and reading instrument readings.

·  Ability to perform math calculations related to wastewater treatment processes.

·  Ability to respond quickly to emergencies. Must be available for emergency call-ins and snow shift duties.

·  Ability to climb stairs and to frequently lift or move up to 50 lbs, occasionally up to 100 lbs.

·  Ability to pass a pulmonary function test for wearing a respirator.

·  Ability to work a variable shift.

Salary: DOQ. Operators must be available for emergency call-ins, snow shift duties, holidays & overtime. Excellent benefit package.
