Item 3: Reading of Previous Minutes

  • Minutes from the previous meeting are posted on both the FBA and the district websites.

Item 4: Treasurer’s Report

  • $11, 742 was generated from gate sales at Marching MPA
  • Money that we normally get from Broward County that goes to help out assessment fees has been frozen. This shouldn’t affect our assessment fees this year, however it will not allow us to contribute to the FBA hurricane fund like we had originally planned.
  • See district budget handout for other specific information.

Item 5: Music Advocacy Issues

  • Tallahassee has handed down more budget cuts with even more projected to come. Make sure legislators are being contacted with the message to stop cutting education funding.

Item 6: Communications

  • Key West High School to join us for Jazz MPA and S&E (Color Guard)
  • Coral Way K-8 to join us for Middle School MPA

  • Programs:
  • MPA program information will be pulled from MPA Online. Please make sure your titles and composers are correct in the program
  • Recordings:
  • There is a new glitch in MPA Online. You must MANUALLY add the recording fee for each group you are taking to MPA. If you have already printed your forms and the recording fee was automatically calculated, you must still go back into the program and add the fee again since all the automatic calculations were wiped out.
  • Other:
  • When signing up a band for any MPA event, make sure your classification is correct. The program schedules based on classification. If you do not put in the correct classification…even for Jazz MPA, then you may not be scheduled in the appropriate time slot.
  • Make sure that EVERY event entered into MPA Online is complete. Any information left out or entered in error (no students, too many students, no title, etc) will cause errors in the scheduling program.

Item 12: District MPA Dates for Next Year

  • Suggested dates for next year’s MPAs:
  • All state auditions:
  • Edgar discussed the All-State committee’s new mandate about the audition window. Points that were brought up:
  • Conflict with Dade County – we only own 5 recorders as we borrow 5 from Dade to allow us to handle over 400 auditions in one day.
  • Conflict with Rosh Hashanah
  • Suggestions were made to (a)hire a company to do all the recording and charge a higher fee to audition, (b)buy more recorders, (c) look into other recording technology. Edgar will look into these options and report back at the next meeting.
  • Motion to have all state auditions on September 12, 2009. (Schletter/Rivero - Motion Passed)
