General Objective

The purpose of this component is to increase teachers' and administrators' skills in and knowledge of

competencies in prekindergarten/early childhood education. Upon successful completion of the component,

participants will be able to screen, assess, diagnose, and prescribe interventions which will enhance the

education experience of individual students.

Specific Objectives

Upon completion of this component, participants will be able to:

1. Demonstrate knowledge of various screening instruments for identifying prekindergarten students for placement.

2. Demonstrate skill in administration and interpretation of screening instruments.

3. Administer a diagnostic test for pre-readiness and readiness.

4. Interpret individual student's test scores.

5. Demonstrate knowledge of the pre-school curriculum.

6. Demonstrate content knowledge of selected developmental and sequential learning patterns.

7. Improve and refine techniques for teaching pre-readiness and readiness skills.

8. Demonstrate knowledge of various learning theories.

9. Demonstrate the ability to apply a specific learning theory to the individual needs of a student based upon an evaluation.

10. Develop and demonstrate suggested techniques for the educational strategies involving parents and other support personnel.

11. Develop lists of appropriate educational materials for parent's use with their children.

12. Demonstrate the ability to provide diagnostic information.

13. Simulate a clinical teaching environment.

14. Demonstrate the ability to develop an individualized program for a student.

15. Demonstrate the ability to maintain records and conduct on-going re-evaluations regarding a child's progress

and classroom instruction.

16. Select and use an observational checklist in screening and identifying each student.

17. Select and use an observational checklist in planning teaching strategies to meet the individual needs of each student.

Description of Activities

Activities held under this component will be designed to accomplish the specific objectives outlined above. They may include, but will not be limited to lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and/or use of appropriate materials.

Evaluation of Participants

Evaluation of the specific objectives will be determined by the activity leader or designee through analysis of student performance data affected by training activities, portfolios maintained by the training participant, documented observation by administrators, rubrics developed for special area curriculum, teacher-provided test results/grade books, or curriculum alignment data.

Evaluation of Activity

An online evaluation for this activity will be conducted through the Santa Rosa Professional Growth System.
