PATHWAYS TO COLLEGE AT MTC

Nikki Workman will introduce us to Cheryl Hagerty and Leanne Kelly form MTC. Cheryl Hagerty has been in the field of adult basic and literacy education (ABLE) for over thirty years. She has worked in Delaware, Union, and now in Marion County. As coordinator of the Marion Tech ABLE program, she oversees the ABLE services in Marion, Morrow, and Wyandot counties. She is a graduate of the Ohio State University and started her education career as a third grade teacher. She currently lives in Ostrander, Ohio which she says is located between fast horses and bad women. She was a charter member of the Rotary Club of Union County. Cheryl will discuss the variety of services available under the umbrella of ABLE. She will also describe the current GED test and the changes that are coming in 2014.

Leanne C. Kelly is the QuickStart Coordinator at Marion Technical College. She is responsible for the management of the grant funded QuickStart to College Program and also serves as a community faculty member at MTC. She holds a B.A. in Sociology from Otterbein University and a M.S. in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati. Leanne will provide a general overview of the QuickStart class. The purpose and goal of QuickStart, as well as highlight various components of the courseswhich assist students in their preparation for college.
