MINUTES OF THE SAVA MANCO MEETING HELD ON 24 JUNE 2014 @ 10h00 AT SUNACE, JETPARK

1.  Welcome & Apologies & Minutes

DISCUSSION
Claus Maurer welcomed all to the meeting. Apology from Mark Holtes noted. Claus Maurer confirms that the meeting constitutes a quorum. The Minutes of the MANCO meeting of 16 May 2014 was accepted as a true reflection of the meeting that took place. Proposed by Maria Stephanou and Seconded by Andy Halls.
2.  MATTERS ARISING

DISCUSSION
a.  GBCSA. Delanie Bezuidenhout indicated that SAVA received acknowledgement of receipt of our letter and a response will be sent once the letter have been discussed at the next GBCSA technical committee meeting scheduled for beginning of July 2014. Delanie Bezuidenhout will follow-up.
b.  DEHP Feedback. To stand over.
c.  Brand Registration. The registration forms have been lodged by Adams&Adams in the following three classes:
·  Class 17 – Vinyl extrusions used in the manufacture of windows, vinyls sheeting used in the manufacture of inflatables, flexible PVC pipe, plastic, foam and corrugated PVC fluted substances.
·  Class 19 – Vinyl doors, flooring and all vinyl PVC building materials.
·  Class 25 – Footwear made of vinyl.
d.  Cable Association. Claus Maurer will send a letter to the Cable Association this week.
e.  Technical Issues – Stabilisers. Alistair Calder and George Dimond provided Claus Maurer with technical feedback. Follow-up discussions to continue.
f.  Recycling. Delanie Bezuidenhout provided feedback on the current status of the proposed “Pricing Strategy” as well as the Industry Waste Management Plan (IWMP) submitted by PACSA. SAVA submitted updated statistics for the IWMP that will be sent to DEA within the next few days for discussion and approval. SAVA will participate with all other polymer groups to provide comment on the proposed “Pricing Strategy” as soon as it is released. SAVA is continuing its discussion with PETCO and Extrupet regarding the collection of PVC bottles with the PET waste stream.
3.  PROJECT FEEDBACK

DISCUSSION
a.  SAVA PSP Survey. Delanie Bezuidenhout will continue with visits to all SAVA members within the next few weeks to discuss and interrogate the latest results with the purpose of rectifying any mistakes where relevant. Delanie Bezuidenhout will circulate the Excel Spreadsheets received from the Australian Vinyls Council related to their PSP survey to all MANCO members for comment in order for Paul Botnick to customise it. The next PSP Survey is scheduled to start towards the end of August 2014. Delanie Bezuidenhout also explained the Pb reporting methodology to all present.
b.  GBCSA Exhibition. The exhibition will take place from 10 – 12 September 2014. Theme for this year is “It’s time for Africa”. DPI have already pledged R20 000 towards the SAVA stand. SAVA budgetted R50 000 and it is expected that the cost would be in the region of R60 000. MANCO approved SAVA’s participation. Delanie Bezuidenhout will make the necessary arrangements. Delanie Bezuidenhout also showed the plan for the SAVA exhibition and all approved.
c.  Vinyl SA 2014 Conference. The call for abstracts has been sent out, as well as the first invitation newsletter. The desk drops will be sent out this week. All other arrangements are on track. The next CTT meeting will be on 5 August 2014 where abstracts will be moderated and approved.
d.  SAVA Recycling Survey 2014. Delanie Bezuidenhout have asked Annabe Pretorius (Plastix 911) for a quote to conduct a recycling survey specific to the local PVC industry. In the light of recent legislative developments at DEA it is imperative that SAVA comes to grips with the actual state of PVC recycling in SA.
e.  PVC MedAlliance. The proposed “Recovery of PVC in the healthcare environment” project is still on hold pending securing a critical partner. Based on the current projects for 2014, Delanie Bezuidenhout suggested that the project might only become active in 2015.
f.  Vaalpark Drop-Off Site. SAVA in partnership with Adventure Shells and SASOL is sponsoring a 9m2 structure for the drop-off site to be used as a tea room. The structure will be delivered towards the end of July 2014.
g.  EcoSmart Group. Funding for 2 industrial sewing machines has been provided by SAVA. Delanie Bezuidenhout will visit the project to take photos for a press release.
4.  SAVA Management Accounts & Budget

5.  MANCO Portfolio

It was decided not to allocate specific portfolios to MANCO members. MANCO members will make themselves available for task groups as needed.
6.  GENERAL

a.  Delanie Bezuidenhout will participate in a “South Africa’s Leading Ladies in the Plastics Industry” feature hosted by Summit Publishers.
b.  Delanie Bezuidenhout presented details about the WASTECON conference to be hosted in Somerset West from 6 – 10 October 2014. It has not been budgeted for, but is in the interest of SAVA in the light of current legislative changes in the area of waste management. MANCO approved the additional expense and participation.
c.  BBBEE Certificate. Delanie Bezuidenhout will get one from a IRBA registered auditor.
d.  PlasticsSA. Delanie Bezuidenhout will discuss “terms of engagement” with the Director of PlasticsSA.
