Health & Clinical Care Management
This domain focuses on the management of the health and clinical care of individuals. It encompasses all aspects of the sub-domain.
Practice and Operations
This sub-domain focuses on the clinical practice of health care and the operations that directly support that practice. It includes such activities as ordering, execution and reporting on procedures and examinations.
Reasoning
This sub-domain focuses on the interactions necessary to support clinical reasoning in the health care domain. It includes the information to support guidelines, goals, care plans and decision support.
Records
This sub-domain addresses information requirements for the management of clinical documentation. It includes activities of the HL7 Information Management committee and the development of information structures surrounding electronic health records.
Administrative Management
This domain deals with the administrative management of health care enterprises, assuming a separation of duties that distinguishes between the provision of health and clinical services and the management of the processes whereby those services are provided.
Practice (Patient?)
Practice administration focuses heavily on the establishment of an environment that assures the smooth flow of clinical care and the appropriate treatment of patients as clients or customers of the health enterprise.
Financial
Financial administration provides the appropriate capture of information about the clinical environment and the health care financing activities in which the enterprise operates. It includes support for internal accounting within the enterprise and for the collection of monies to support the provision of health services, such as billing, claims, etc.
Personnel
Provides information support to the administration and management of the personnel functions of the health enterprise.
Infrastructure Management
This domain defines the information structures and communications tools necessary to support the interactions specified by the Clinical and Administrative domains. Its focus is on the logical structures used to convey clinical and administrative information rather than on the clinical or administrative information itself.
Messages
This sub-domain allows for the routine communication of information structures between applications supporting the clinical and administrative domains.
Query
This sub-domain specifies the formulation of information queries and the responses to those queries to meet the needs of applications.
Structured Documents**
This sub-domain specifies the structure and content of documents to convey clinical or administrative information.
