There are on-stage parts for up to 50 students. Spots will be filled on a first-come first-served basis, applications being accepted on October 24th. All students who submit an application before all spots fill up, along with payment and/or scholarship request, will be guaranteed a part in the show.

Although the rehearsal schedule may appear long, it is important that you can attend all rehearsals. Limited conflicts are allowed during the rehearsalperiod, however no conflicts are allowed from January 17thuntil closing. There is also a commitment from parents to volunteer at least 5 hours of time, plus join a committee, to help with the production.

Requesting a scholarship will not have any effect on your eligibility for roles in the show. Only the parent producer and a PTSA board representative will know which students have requested a scholarship.
Time Commitment / Please consider this commitment before you submit an application. The theater projectdoes conflict with 2ndquarter sports, which can impact your participation. The theater project begins the week of November 2ndand continues through February 4th. Rehearsals will generally be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday Friday 2:30 – 5:00, and Wednesdays 1:00 – 5:00. All students will not be required to attend each rehearsal, depending on their part. More specifics will be provided once the show is cast. All rehearsals are at Redmond Middle School with the exception of the final week which will be at the Redmond High School Performing Arts Center.
There may or may not be rehearsals the week of Thanksgiving break, and in the last few days leading into the Holiday Break; it depends on what conflicts students have.
There will be three evening performances: February 2nd, 3rd & 4th andone matinee Saturday the 4th, all at the Redmond High School PAC. Students will report to the theater2 hours prior to show time on performance nights.
Auditions / Auditions for specific parts will take place in small half-hour groups on November 2nd and 3rd. There will be a dance callback on November 4th. Callbacks (as needed) will be scheduled on November 5thfrom 2:30 to 4:00 pm.
Casting will be announced on November 8th before the read-through2:30 to 5:00.
Therefore, a student’s commitment during the first week will be to attend an audition (half an hour sometime on November 2nd & 3rd), the dance callback (1:00-3:00 on November 4th), some or all of the acting callback (2:30 – 4:00 on November 5th) and the read-through (2:30 – 5:00 on November 8th).
Students must come to the audition with their completed audition form (plus a few other forms) and have paid their registration fee or they will not be allowed to audition. The audition form is different from the application form at the end of this packet; it will be available at the parent meeting on October 29th, as well as on the PTSA website.Questions about auditions can be addressed at the parent meeting, or contact the producer: Emily Papel at
During the audition process each student will need to have a memorized monologue or poem of one minute or less which has to be acted out (no reading from a book), and ready to sing a verse and chorus from a song of their choice (acapella and less than one minute; Broadway songs preferred but not required). If they don’t have a song prepared they will be asked to sing Happy Birthday.
Production Team / Production gives those students that are not interested in being on stage a chance to learn about all of the support work that is required to pull off a great production. They will meet generally once a week and must be at rehearsal for the entire time during tech week & performances. Students can work on the sets, props, costumes, makeup, etc as well as help backstage during performances.
Stage Manager / Stage manager is a special production role. The stage manager attends rehearsals and assists the director as needed. In addition, during the run of the show, the stage manager “calls” the show, reading cues from the sound booth to guide the other tech workers. The show can have one stage manager and also an assistant stage manager, which provides an opportunity to train to be stage manager in future years.
Parent Requirements / We would like to have the students do as much of the work as possible. That being said, we still need parent support to help make the production a success. We will have a mandatoryparent meeting onOctober 27th 7:00 – 9:00 in the RMS Library. Werequireat least 5 volunteer hours per family for each child, plus join a committee. We need parents to chaperone during each rehearsal and performance, as well as help in the following areas: publicity, poster design, ticket sales, programs, chaperone coordination, sets, props, costumes, makeup, arranging photos/video, concessions, Star Gram sales, and organizing the cast party. There are choices that can accommodate both working and stay at home parents.
