Stantec Honoured with Award of Excellence at the 2011 Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards

OTTAWA – Stantec has won an Award of Excellence at the 2011 Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards Gala. It was honoured for its work on the Oxford Pollution Control Plant Retrofit in London, Ontario. The Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards are presented jointly by the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies (ACEC) and Canadian Consulting Engineer Magazine.

The Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards are considered the highest form of recognition for the consulting engineering industry. “The awards showcase the important role of Canadian consulting engineering firms in every aspect of our lives,” says John Gamble, president of ACEC. “To win an Award of Excellence is considered a prestigious honour by the industry.”

Awards of Excellence were presented at the Ottawa Convention Centre in categories ranging from buildings, environment, transportation, water resources and project management. Stantec won in the category of water resources.

Stantec provides professional consulting services in a variety of engineering specialties with over 170 offices in North America andfour offices internationally. Stantec provided engineering services to study, design, and construct the largest membrane bioreactor (MBR) municipal pollution control plant (PCP) ever built in Canada. The MBR retrofit of the Oxford PCP provided the City of London with an economical solution for doubling treatment capacity, while improving the quality of the plant effluent, and avoiding the expansion of the facility into sensitive neighbouring lands.

The winners were selected by a panel of twelve jurors organized by Canadian Consulting Engineer Magazine. All of the jurors have extensive backgrounds in engineering, construction and possess a knowledge of the industry.
