Mike Johns, Sr. spent September on the Amalfi coast in Italy. While there he attended a Rotary meeting and “ran into” two district governors that he previously hosted at a meeting in San Diego.

Chris Adams is looking for members to help with planning our next district conference. His planning committee will be meeting on November 6 & 7 at Kalahari. Lynda Rossiter was pleased that her family celebrated the 75th birthdays of both her mother and father. Ted Bilton warned all of us to be sure to ‘show up’ for our assignments the night of the Taste. District Governor, John Bosco, has already visited 33 of the 55 clubs in the district. At his Andover meeting, he received a live duck. Mike Johns, Jr. was pleased seeing Don Futrell, his fraternity brother and a guest of Gail’s. He is also pleased that we now have 25 confirmed restaurants with at least one more “on the way.’ President Brian was happy that he met someone he hadn’t seen in years when he attended the meeting of another club.

ROTARACT MEETING: The Rotaract Club is the first one in our district and now has been chartered. It meets Wednesday, October 7, and will do so the first and third Wednesday of each month. It still needs more members and hopes we will bring young (18-30) guests to its first fundraiser at Harry Buffalo’s this Thursday, October 8. You will get pizza and beer for the admission charge of $15. The event begins at 8:00 with proceeds being used to send holiday care packages to the troops.

CASH FOR BASKETS: Kathy Mekesa passed a collection plate for us to contribute

toward buying items for Taste baskets. She will do so again next week.

SUNSHINE: Tell Bobbi Tortorici if you know of something that would warrant her sending a card to someone.

TASTE OF HILLCREST: Tom Mugridge hopes all will bring ticket stubs and checks to our meeting next week. DO NOT DO SO THE NIGHT OF THE EVENT. Email Tom if you have sold at least ten tickets. He will list you as an appetizer sponsor. Be sure to indicate how you wish to be acknowledged and include your phone number.

RAFFLE BASKETS: The baskets will be put together at Kathy Mekesa’s house on Monday. Come and join in.

TASTE UNIFORM: John Wilson pointed out that we are to wear a Rotary shirt and khakis for the Taste. Those not having a Rotary shirt may email John that you need one and your size. He may have one that fits you.

RYLA: The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards camp is held every June. This year 40 students who had just completed their junior year in high school attended, and under expert leadership primarily from Baldwin Wallace, learned a lot and had fun doing so.

John Wilson introduced the four RYLA students, 3 from Mayfield and 1 from Solon (Rob Previte’s daughter). We sponsored five of them, but the girl from Brush couldn’t be with us.

The girls then took turns using a power point to describe the activities through which they learned respect, trust, communication, and teamwork. They also enjoyed dancing, bowling, and square dancing, They thanked our club for sponsoring them.

ROTABUCK WINNER: Phil Price
